Hi

I'm tinkering with a GSX 1400 engine and will probably be using advice from here

Don't have a bike but have several oil cooled GSXR i work on and ride daily

The gsx1400 doesn't share much with the other big Suzuki's except the technology inside .
Will follow your progress with interest .

On a side note its normal for new people too head over to the bar and introduce themselves as this isnt facebook .
Cheers

oh and a standard one too

Yes it's based on the same concept but it's a whole other item

At the moment I'm working out the parts to
enable me to convert to Bandit 1200 ignition pick up, ECU and carburetors

Carbs will need big mods as the barrel spacing is very different to any other Suzuki's
As for the ignition that should be more straightforward but not sure how much of the rest of the loom will match with what your doing i think you might just need a complete custom loom for everything to work and more complicated depending on what year of 14 loom you have .

As I said, its also normal to introduce yourself as others have done some or all of what your trying and will ne much more willing to help you .

Hi

This topic is in the Intro board

Like i said, i joined because i'm building a 1400 engine without having the actual bike to put it in, and i have solid knowledge of suzuki OC engines of which some could maybe help out others here too on some similar items

what are you building Joseph ?

Hi

It's currently fitted to a subframe in a car chassis

interesting, got any pic's ?

Hooli

Why are you doing all that work to make it worse? the FI is pretty faultless & simple of these.

Joseph

Well indeed, but all i got was the engine, and the two simple mods required to convert it to carbs is very manageable for me.

Much simpler wiring on the Bandit, there are 7 pins on the GSXR ECU i'll be using, (i counted 54 on the GSX1400 ECU) and on the Bandit the rest of the loom is pretty much just for the lights to work and a couple of switches.

Whether I do EFI or carbs the vehicle needs a full custom loom eitherway, there is less to deal with using the Bandit ancillaries

It will be easy to enlarge the cylinder head intakes to match the 36 mm carbs also, so there's free performance there

I'm nowhere near being a real mechanic but i feel this is the simpler way

it depends on what kind of power you are after, 36mm carbs will give you more power in the higher rev range but using smaller carbs will give more bottom end and mid range.
I put a set of 32mm carbs on a 1200 bandit engine and the bottom and mid range was greatly improved but still pulled 120mph and that wasn't full throttle.

Joseph

Indeed.

I've just fitted 34mm to a late 1127 GSXR engine thats been swapped into a 1980 GSX1100 and it proves to be quite a torquey puller indeed.

This GSX1400 however is to be mated to a quick spooling turbocharger, i'm looking for around 200 HP, which should be possible seeing that bandits with a GT28 get 250 very easily (no head work, stock cams)

GSX1400 are hindered in turbocharged form by the intake, if what i've read is true ? Although they still manage impressive figures.

If i open the head intakes to the same "shape" and diameter as the B12 i should reach a comparable level of flow, seeing that from what i've found in searching about all this, is that the valves are basically the same size between the two engines.

So i should be fairly able to meet the reasonablish figure of 200 HP, even with outdated carburetors.

Torque will definitely be through the roof

Andre

Welcome to the forum Joseph.

Will be interesting to follow your project. Pics would be very nice.

Not sure why fit carbs to a 14 motor. Makes no sense to me. A lot of effort for nothing.

Joseph

What can i explain that i haven't already ?  :whatever:
