With the government trying it's very best to get us off the road with hight road tax, fuel tax, ULEZ zones, stiff parking fees, 20mph zones and an obsession with net zero they are pushing us towards public transport.  It's cleaner and better for the environment they say, it's cheap, regular and reliable they say.  BASTARDS

I had an appointment at the eye hospital in Bristol yesterday and was told not to drive/ride as I would be having eye drops which would render my eyesight dodgy for up to 4 hours.  So I thought I would catch the bus, I checked all the timetables, found out how to pay (not used a bus for over 50 years).  Yesterday morning I stood at the bus stop well before time but the bus was 10 minutes late and as it drove past me there was a sign on the front saying Sorry, full.  I had to take my bike, parked for free outside the hospital and had a coffee and bacon butty while my eyes recovered.  I wont be using public transport again.  BASTARDS

It's no better elsewhere despite the lies that it is...

Took me three days to get back from Romania on trains & almost every one was late so I missed the connections, the worst was an Austrian sleeper to Amsterdam that was 2 1/2 hours late. Surprisingly the English train & bus were the only bits that worked properly.

Lairg, that's the place with the tiny house in the middle of the lake isn't it? And the story on the noticeboard about how it was once a real house till a storm destroyed it.

Correct. They are still finding whisky bottles from the illegal brewery they had inside the house

I feckin detest public transport (especially buses), but after having a pacemaker fitted I wasn't allowed to drive. The only good thing is I got a free bus pass for a year.

A few of the reasons I detest ...
1) They don't arrive at the specified time, it's either before, after or don't turn up at all!
2) They take forever to get anywhere, a 15 minute (at most) jaunt on the bike takes over an hour on the bus, not including the time taken to get to the bus stop and back from it (both ends).
3) Having to travel with the dregs of society (not all the time, but most of the time).
4) They generally feel absolutely manky.

All the best ... Barry

You should try being a bus driver, you've listed most of the reasons I hated the job.

Going to stay as a truck driver. Couldn't put up with the dregs of society.
As a truck driver at the moment I do about 40 miles a day and 13 hrs driving a car a week

Yeah i hate public transport.

However the government doesn't want to stop you driving as they rely so much on taxes.
Rego, Third Party insurance, fuel taxes (and I'm sure they'll introduce a tax to ensure they get the same revenue from electric cars etc etc etc

You get screwed either way.

As an aside that is the reason governments are not interested in tackling the fuel companies over high fuel prices.
Lower cost = less tax revenue.

The public transport in N.Ireland is fantastic. Love the train trip up to Portrush for the day. And since I got my pass it's all for free.

We get our concession card at 60 so you would be able to commute to work for free.

That's the one thing which is decent, the drivers

I can understand why you hated it, from the company employing you, to the scum you had to deal with!
