About 7 years ago when my works location was in crappy Blackpool town centre (across from the North Pier) I was on my way out to grab some lunch..
Anyone familiar with Blackpool will know Talbot Square is very busy..
As I stood there waiting for a gap in the traffic I felt something touch my arm..
I looked round and there was this middle aged woman holding out some money to me..
I said thats very kind but what is it for?
She said "Go and get yourself a cup of tea luv"..
I said "well I am actually on my lunch break from work, so I will make my own arrangements"..
She looked horrified and took the money back very quickly..
She said "I'm sorry I thought you were homeless" !!!!!
My Mum nearly wet herself when I told her this story..
Maybe I dress a little too scruffy.

Many years in earthworks and I still have heaps of work clothes, Hi-Viz shirts, work boots etc etc. It's still good to wear and work in but very work related. I also still drive a Ute with tool box's on the back.

A few times since I've retired i've rocked up to the hardware store or plumbers suppliers early to collect stuff and been directed to the BBQ breakfast. Asking who to pay I'm told... "Naaa mate, we put a feed on for tradies".

The exact same thing happened to me, went to a VW dealer to look for a new car and they all looked at me as if I just stepped in something nasty, so I went and bought a merc.  Only difference was I was in my bike gear, I would never want to look like a tradesman.  :whistling:

The reverse....

My Ex-Mrs Dad was pretty cashed up, owned a huge car Worksop, a fuel injection specialist, other companies, he was on the tools all day, always one of the lads, always grubby from being under bonnets and under cars.

One day he went straight from work to a large Merc dealership in Wolverhampton, after a sporty soft top for his Wife.

He said he was pretty grubby and rough looking wandering around the cars when the salesman got to him.  His first comment to the salesman was "Sorry about my work clothes, I am a serious buyer"

The salesman said "I don't doubt it, the biggest problem I have is blokes in flash suits, expensive shoes, flash watches etc... then their finance fails. Blokes with money don't need to try and impress me"

He bought the car.

Yes that is very much the difference between a good and bad car salesman.
As with many things in life, first you need to be a good human.
