Differences in main looms

As per title,

I have been checking various diagrams ( parts and electrics ) but my search has not succesfully ended.

My situation:

I am slowly piecing together a complete 14 loom for an upcoming project.

My question :

- Does the K3 and K4 loom also has the twin plug CDI ?

I know my K2 is a single CDI plug.

I am trying to prevent ending up with a loom with an immobilizer function.

From what i can see is that a K5 has a 2 connector ECU, a 4 pin ignition barrel and an extra - transparant- ish 6 pin immobilizer plug.

That specific detail is not always shown in the advert but could be asked to be sure.

Hi Blubber, where would I find the CDI plug? I'll have a look on my K3 for you.
I try to take one day at a time, however sometimes several days catch up with me at once.

I'd be interested to know.

I'd take a wild guess and say maybe it changed when they did other changes like the immobiliser ?

Suzuki do changes during other very model runs though.
No point in checking my K8.

Cool,
The CDI is hiding near the battery. Remove seat, remove the small removable access lid and you will see a dark Grey box with a wide connector on it.

The more i think about it, it is very likely that the twin plug CDI came with the introduction of the immobilizer. ( Like Tony said )

I've always understood the twin plug ECU came in at K5, but I have seen people say their K4 has it. I'm not sure I've ever seen a K4 in real life, they seem like unicorns.

Having said that, Robinsons show a single plug for K2 & K3, twin plug (but different part numbers) for K4, K5 & K6-K7.

Which matches what I've seen people post occasionally that K4 had twin plug ECUs but no immobiliser.

Just out of interest i compared part numbers. Very confusing my end result. Sorry, no help.

K2 and K3 have a single connector ECU.
K4 has a double connector ECU, and the K4 ECU doesn't embed an immobilizer so doesn't need an antenna around the ignition barrel and coded key.
K5 on have a double connector ECU, and do require immobilizer antenna, key, etc.

I guess that K2/K3 ECUs, thus K2/K3 looms, are easier to find than K4 ECUs and looms :-)

I think you've got your singles & doubles mixed up there. I know for certain K2/k3 are single plug ECUs & K5 onwards are double.

I checked other part sites and the info around K4 and K5 is a bit foggy.
Some even claim K1 to K8 are all interchangeable. Not even a mention off the difference between having right hand handlebar switch cluster : with light switch, blanked light switch or an Alarm light switch.

Thought it would be best to ask the Orgster.  ;)

Sounds like K2 and K3 looms are a safe bet, K4 only if no immobilizer plug is present

I know the immobiliser started at K5 cause they got the recall on the antenna fault for it.

I agree to go for a K2/K3 setup, I've seen so few K4s about I doubt you'd find any to buy anyway.

Bit late to the party, but I've been having fun with looms over the last few days ... I have a K3 and a K4, and a couple of K2 looms.

My observations for the looms ...
1) R/H SWITCHGEAR - K2 has 10 way connector (lights on/off), K3/K4 has 8 way connector (hazards).
2) ECU - K2/K3 has single connector, K4 has a double connector ... no immobiliser on any of these looms.
3) CLOCKS - K2/K4 seem to be the same, K3 has an extra wire alongside the 6 way connector (dark green wire with a bullet connector) running up to the clocks.

I'll be replacing my aging K3 loom with a lovely K2 loom, I'll report back any problems (including lack of dark green wire to clocks).

All the best ... Barry
