Yes, we found it easier when we put the springs back in Hoolie, and came to that very conclusion, as you always do in hindsight.
We live and learn.

The years I spent ramming broomhandles & home made tools down to hold the dampers before I found that out....

I still normally forget as well.

Went out today on the 14, on a round robin to test out the new seals. They got a good test, cos the roads round here are full of pot holes and speed humps.  :computer_type:

Ended up at Son in laws, just to check in and tell him the job was a good un, and the seals were fine. It had rained on the way there, and when I had parked up I noticed an oil rainbow under the bike on the RHS. Oil was weeping from the Oil pressure switch.
So hopefully that will just be a simple tweak or a new seal washer.

I suspect you mean the fan switch. RH side, in front of the silver cover low down on the front of the engine & a single wire going backwards along the frame tube off it?

From memory the oil pressure switch is inside that engine cover so can't be seen.

Dwain Dibley

Thanks for the info Hoolie.   :smitten:

As it turns out on closer inspection, the leak was from the timing rotor cover. None of the bolts were very tight, the bottom two were loose, or as near as dammit. I torqued them up to 11 NM as per manual and all good.

red = oil leak. Blue = no oil.

Nice easy fix then. There's not even much oil in that cover normally which helps keep any leaks small.

Dwain Dibley

Yeah Mate, If the road had not been wet, I would never have noticed. Until I lost a bolt or two.

Didn't your S.I.L do all the spannering on your bike? I'd suggest a sharp rap on the knuckles with a size 22 ring spanner to remind him to check all bolts he's touched...
I try to take one day at a time, however sometimes several days catch up with me at once.

Neither of us had touched that cover Eric, so cannot blame him, plus he has 5 bikes and is a meticulous mechanic. The only people who could have opened the cover, are the P.O. and the place I bought the bike from.

I have torqued the bolts up to 11 Nm as per the manual and all good.

Went for a blast to test the bike and my new boots today, the bike had no oil leak and the boots were comfy.

Awesome, good to read that mate. Comfy boots makes all the difference, glad you've got no oil leaks.

MOT Day today, can you believe it's been the wettest most miserable day this week....it was sunny yesterday..

What a piss take, the bike is filthy.

She got a shiny new MOT tho, so was way faster on the way back home...  :coffeescreen:

Well the sun is going to shine again tomorrow (Saturday), so I'll be taking my GSX out somewhere - drop me a PM if you fancy a run out.

Pete.

Gave the old girl a wash with the Mucoff sno-foam and pressure washer,in between showers.
This little pressure washer has 3 nozzles, including one for motorcycles and one for pushbikes, with less powerful jets.
I washed her once and dried her 3 times.
Did you get out Pete ?

Yes, 130 odd miles up to Cheshire: https://gsx1400owners.org/forum/index.php?topic=375.msg110282;topicseen#new

Back end of next week is looking promising at the moment, so looking forward to setting off again.
