Hello from Uganda!

Hi everyone! I am a Venezuelan/American living in Uganda. I may be moving to France sometime within the next year, and if I do, I want to finally own a GSX 1400. I have had my eyes on these bikes for a long time since I am a sucker for the big bore UJM look. It reminds me of the bikes I used to stare at in awe in Venezuela in the 80s when oil money and the Latin penchant for all things extreme resulted in lots of muscly Japanese bikes ripping around the place with gleaming headers all in a row.

I have been riding for 15 years, mostly in East Africa, and I have owned a lot of bikes. New bikes just don't do it for me. They are too powerful, too techy, and way too expensive. With a few exceptions (all out of my price range and terribly impractical), none of them stir my soul from a design perspective. I think the GSX 1400 would be perfect for my needs. Torque over top-end HP, beautiful, agile enough to be somewhat spirited in the mountains (have chilled out a lot), carries pillion with ease, reliable, affordable, customizable, and mostly analog. I dream of a black one with full Yoshi exhaust, Yoshi cams, PC, tune, and a few aesthetic bits and bobs.

Been lurking for a while absorbing knowledge, and intend to start asking some specific questions soon.  Hope to become a regular contributor if I make it back to Europe and scoop one up!

Welcome to the forum Atreyou. These bikes do all you want and more. Certainly a great pillion bike. I have done a lot of trips with the bride on the back and she finds it very comfortable even when loaded up with luggage. You have certainly done your homework realising that a black 14 is the way to go. Very best of luck finding a bike that fits your desire.

You are obviously a person of great taste as that's what I have...

Only thing I'd be aware of is oil filter removal if you go full Yoshi Cyclone, but it's not the big deal some folk make it out to be, and every day you're not swapping the filter you get a brilliant pipe. If I ever get another 14 I'd be looking for a Cyclone for it.

That's a really nice intro mate. Lots of thought has gone into it & I think you'll definitely enjoy a GSX when you eventually purchase one. A great allrounder for sure 👍👍👍

HAHA - my very English wife has the same reaction!

Reason is that job would be in Geneva. The Ain department of France is within commuting distance but much cheaper, food much better, and motorcycle regulations much laxer (hides from Swiss members of the forum ). Plenty of great mountain roads around too. Actually had this very arrangement for three years (2018-2021). Hope you can forgive me, unlike my mother-in-law, particularly since my kids speak to each other in French at least half the time. Love watching her face slowly contort into a scowl when they do it, much like slow-motion footage of a plant wilting.

Going to find ways to give my black boat anchor wings!
