A Feel for Seals

Hi All,

This may be a stupid question but due to over reading internet advice on changing fork seals I seem to be getting mixed messages.
The photos show a new OEM Suzuki seal..
Photo 1 shows the flat side with yellow dot..
Photo 2 shows what my logic says is the underside..
Common wisdom says you fit it so the writing / flat area goes upwards (towards the spring clip)..

Then I read that you fit the tapered section on the outer edge in first!!
On the suzuki seals that would mean fitting the seal upside down as the tapered outer section is on the flat part with writing on..

You will see a yellow dot on the flat part (which i assume is the side that faces the spring clip)..

Errrr which is correct?

On the OEM seal there are two sealing lips in one direction. I fit them so they both keep the oil in, there's still a third lip that works the other way.

seal lips  for any use face the oil you want stopped. Scotch brite aound sliders then wash off, brake cleaner. Creates tiny honing around horizontally to also help oil retention. Just my thoughts.

Found this in the parts manual;

Insert the inner tube into the outer tube and fit the oil seal and dust seal with the special tool.

NOTE:
Stamped mark on the oil seal should face outside.
