Installing new headers

Afternoon all,

Bought myself some 2nd hand new headers which had been installed but never used on the road.

I have a couple of questions. As the headers have no stickers telling me which ones go where.

Am I correct in thinking that I can install the longer ones in any of the middle positions? Then work out the outer 2? Or do they all have to be in the correct positions?

Also when fitting the new gaskets they sit flush with the engine block. Is that correct and when I tighten the bolts thats crush the gasket and help seal it?

Sorry if this is a silly question, its the 1st time installing a motorcycle exhaust. Cheers

First question ... have you removed the old headers yet? If not you probably should do some research on broken bolts.

If they're OEM headers they'll be stamped on the collector end.

Make sure you use copper or nickel anti seize on the socket screws when installing the headers.
If you look like your passport photo then you're too sick to travel.

Yes, I've already removed the old headers and didn't snap any which is good going for a 2002 with 38k.

I've worked out the positions now. But the gaskets which came with my new bolts are a tight squeeze and sit flush.

When I put the new headers on will these push the gaskets in and crush them for a snug fit? Or do I not fit the new gaskets as the ones I removed didn't have any gaskets fitted

Well done getting the old bolts out .
The washers will crush down but check the new bolts are the correct length too.
Good luck

Just check as well that all the old gaskets heve been removed before you fit new. Sometimes they appear to be out and then you find another one well and truly flattened still in the port. Depends on the previous owner.
Assumption is the mother of all fuck ups!
