Weeping Radiator

Hi All,

After a lot of going back and forth on the internet over replacing the radiator on my bike, I decided to have a go at doing a repair with JB Weld (Original)..
Once cured it can stand temps of well over 500F! So easily up to the temp of what my Rad will get to

The weep on my Rad was pretty minor..
After say 75 miles there would be a stain down the side of the Rad (Photo 1)

So I bought the JB Weld online and dremelled the area around the Guard mounting lug. I got all the paint off and roughed up the alloy. Then cleaned thoroughly with Brake Cleaner.
I decided to "Weld" a large stainless washer over the area. I used plenty of JB Weld so that it "squidged" out from under the washer. As you know the mounting lugs stand proud by about 2mm so there was plenty of area for the strength of JB Weld to work. (Photo 2)

24 hours later I sanded the rough spots from the dry JB Weld... (Photo 3)

Added paint
I used some Hammerite smooth Black.. (Photo 4)

Finished and reassembled..
I think it looks pretty good myself.. (Photo 5)

Overall a succesful repair in my opinion..

I have now done over 400 miles with this repair.. The fan has been on many times and there hasnt been a single drop of a leak..
I think I can call it Officially fixed now !

I've never noticed my radiator fan come on and its hot here often....

I remember my 1400 fan coming on occasionally.. Usually if in standing traffic ion a hot day.
Dont forget the 1400 is largely air cooled (It has large fins) and that your rad is an oil cooler..

CB1300 is water cooled with ZERO fins and so relies on the water cooling / fan far more..
My fan comes on at 109C
When running normally (and not caught in standing traffic) the temp shows 80 - 85C

@Eric GSX1400K3 CB1300 is water cooled so that is a radiator, not an oil cooler. Whether this fix will work on an oil cooler - who knows? (if you look at Speedy's pictures there are no fins on the cylinders, hence liquid cooled not air cooled). I think it only Suzuki and Yamaha that made big capacity oil cooled motors like the GSX1400 and XJR1300

Thanks all, I did not look at the pictures close enough, I thought it was a repair on a 14's oil  cooler. I stand corrected
