Mrg, I would start to look elsewhere for satisfaction, they should not be able to get away with this, I would start here.

I really feel for you mate - and all good points made by others in this thread.
The golden rule of thumb is to always turn down their first offer if a write-off is established. Normally the second offer is accepted by the insured.
The offer they have made is insulting and absolutely unrealistic. In my book you have every right (as the legal owner of the bike) to turn it down. What level write-off is it?
According to the Financial Ombudsman, the offer made by the insurer [should reflect the price the vehicle would be sold for at a a reputable dealership before it was damaged[/b]. On that basis alone, their offer should have far exceeded the one they made, therefore the FO is the way to go.....

Sorry folks - i`ve just noticed how old this thread is. Anyhow, maybe something of what i`d written could be of help to someone in the future!

I think i`ll wait until the Forum is back to its familiar status before writing anything else.... :rofl2:

Bastards, they are all quick to take your money but a bit shy when it comes to giving it back.  These fuckers charged you to insure a bike for £4500 so that's what they should pay out especially as that's about the right price for a 1400.  I hope my insurance company are a bit better than that.
We had exactly the same situation with my wifes car.  We had valued it at £6000 at the time of insuring it, but they would only give half that value when it was written off.  We objected and suggested they find an exact car in the same condition and buy it for my wife.  Obviously they refused, but did up the offer by a little bit more.  We had no choice but to accept it.

An American friend once told me that some insurers in the states will actually search for as close a replacement vehicle they can find and offer up to 3 vehicles which you can choose from, and they buy it and deliver it to you.  I would go with that!

The whole insurance business is a scam and is a licence to print money!  I think every insurance company run to the same rules so I 'm afraid if you have not got an agreed value policy, the the value YOU attribute to the vehicle at the time of insuring it is not even considered.
I have a 2003 GSX1400 owned since new (Blue and White of course).  I have a 1977 Suzuki GT380 café racer and A Japanese import Yamaha XG250 Tricker.  I'm interested in anything mechanical.  Was an aircraft technician / inspector, but I took early retirement - because I could!

I wrote off my Merc a few years ago and the insurance was great (for a change), they just looked at autotrader for the same car and spec in my area and offered me that amount, I bid a bit of a whinge about mileage (mine was below average) so they upped the payout.  Can't remember who it was though.

If I had of been a major general (no such rank in the Royal Air Force) I wouldn't be associating with you fuckers.  :whistling:
