TRE's are a thing to avoid - have been known to cause wiring fires in the past.

If you want to advance your timing, then save your money and do this mod

Has same effect as a TRE. And doesn't cost you a penny.
Nothing to do.............all day to do it....I love retirement

TRE's don't improve performance. As well as removing the pairs valves, they will not make the bike run any smoother.
As @gsxbarmy said avoid a TRE as they are known to cause problems.
Fit an ignition advance wheel or do the mod as said in his link
.
only a slightly modified gsx1400
oh and a standard one too

That's the thing @seano, as suggested by @seth does the same job as a TRE and/or the mod I mentioned above, but is dead easy to fit

yeah thanks barmy think il go the easy route and get one  :)

Hooli

They don't do exactly the same thing though do they?

This is from memory as it's a mod I've never been interested in doing -

TREs only work in the first three or four gears where the ECU normally retards the timing to make the engine a bit less responsive & snatchy. As I understand it a TRE just fools the ECU into thinking the bike is always in sixth?

With the modified rota you'll get the normal full advance in the gears the ECU normally retards & then extra advance in the top few gears. Now I know loads run them without issue, but it may restrict your choice of fuel if you go places you can only buy low octane stuff.

ok Hooli so id have to run it on a premium grade fuel  then?

I think most people who run them use normal fuel.

I was just thinking it might cause issues abroad with E10 as I know that burns differently, I can't recall if it's faster or slower burning though.

Thats the reason i went for Healtech, advance on 5&6 remained stock. Though someone on here recently bought one and was no good. Mines been perfect for around 7 yrs. maybe their quality has slipped, no idea really.

The correct timing depends on your other mods.
I made those longer holes and tested it several times. The best result ( in my case ) was 2° advanced.

T24, back when cars had distributors, out on the road and move until it ran best. Have done that countless times.

Its a pity 14 didnt come with OBD 2 plug. We would have a lot more tuning gadgets to talk about. They sell a gadget around here, for diesel utes/ svu etc. $299 fitted. All it does is change throttle ratio, about 1/3 quicker. They all rave about increased performance. It does nothing except they move their foot less. Placebo affect. All the diesel blokes buy lots.
