50 or 55 profile for rear?

Ok, here's another can of worms being opened. I know std says 190/50 for the rear & I also know a lot of blokes run 190/55.

So, what's the advantage in running a 55 over a 50? I realise tip in is going to be quicker, but the speedo is going to be out & being more 'oval' isn't it going to wear (have a smaller contact patch) faster in the center than the 50 - which is a flatter profile, therefore giving a bigger contact patch.

Ok, worms released.

I tried a 55 on recommendation and didn't like it.
The speedos over read so a 55 will make the speedo closer to real speed.
You need to try it for yourself.

55 profile, a speedo healer sorts the inaccuracy, it just makes the bike far more nimble

I was thinking of fitting a 55 next instead of a jack up kit.
Keep the rubber side down.          Mick

Cant compare cause never had 50 - got bike with 55 and new tire I install was also 55. it would be interesting to try 50 for a experience, but 55 isn't bad.

Only one thing I wold like to add - with 55 tire, space between rubber and rear hugger is much smaller, and small stones will stuck there, while you ride slow. After you speed up it's not an issue anymore

at least, this is what happening with my hugger on my 14...

Fellow1400 owner I've met a  few times at Mt Mee is running 190/55 instead of 190/50  He absolutely swears by it and says he'd never go back to the 50 profile, and that the 190/55 is the best combination he's tried.

He's an "enthusiastic" rider....

I've changed my Busa from a 190/50 to a 190/55.

My B-King has gone from a 200/50 to a 190/55.
(Very popular mod with owners)

I've ran 190/50's, 190/55's and 200/50's on my 14
(all standard Suzuki fitment on various bikes with 6" rears)
I would be using a 190/55 with standard ride height but having jack up blocks
that are already just a fraction high for my taste I run a standard 190/50.

I wouldn't hesitate to put a 190/55 on a stock bike as it works for me personally.

I was speaking to some bloke at Mt Mee (nice blue 1400) and he rides it like it's stolen - swears by 55's. I'll try them next time.

55, always, transforms the handling.

Next time your up there check out his foot pegs, side stand and bottom right engine mount. They all have flats on them from cornering the same as mine.
He changes his footpeg "hero bolts" every week !!
He runs a 55, but I've gone back to a 50 with my jack up kit.
Both bikes go OK through the twistys.

He runs better tyres, suspension and brakes, but I have a full system, PC111 etc.

We should arrange a Mt Mee / Coffee meet up one Sunday.

Absolutely.

Yeah that's the fella - spent ages talking to him - can't remember his name.  Nice bloke.  Told him about here but haven't seen him join up.
His brother (who looks very similar!) had a Harley but got some sense and has also bought a 1400.
