Wow boys & girls,
Got a shit story to tell,
during the summer, Jackie & I took the motorhome to Scarbough to meet for a few days with my son, daughter in law & lovely 1st 16mo grandson,
lovely day & we all walked the prom, but Jackie started slowing & had trouble going straight, we assumed due to the very hot day, back home a few days later, we were walking round the block as we did daily since stopped going to the gym every other day due to lockdown, & she started dragging the left side, really bad, the top of her foot started scraping, & had to hold on to me for support, back home quick, at 0200 I head a bump & shed fell off the loo, i had a hellava job lifting her up, got her onto the stairs somehow, whereapon she fell back, eyes wide open & rolled back, I honestly thought she passed in my arms there & then.
I had to leave here to go find the phone & managed to call my son who thankfully live 1.5m away, off she went in the ambulance.
Medics thought shes had a mini stroke, had all sorts of scans, tests etc. but I couldnt see her due to covoid, then I get a call from the hospital asking me to come & see her, when I get to see her, she tells me they found a tumour on the brain & its terminal, THATS why they let me see her, we cuddled & had a good cry, neither of us wes ready for that.
That was it for me then, totally fuc**ed up, I can eat for England, that completely stopped ate nothing for over a week, didnt want to, then I get another call to go to the hospital, when I got there I was told that Jackie now has tested pos for covoid, & that I too must test, YEP, positive as well, we both caught it in hospital, so they decided to send her back home with me so we could self isolate together.
It gets worse, whilst home, my son got all testing gear together for us, next day they find me asleep & couldn't bring me round, blood pressure 110, oxygen 88 should be above 95 & pulse 40, I came round momentarily on an ambulance trolley 10 hours later full of pipes.
On AMU ward for 2 days hooked up to all sorts of stuff, ( never been in hospital before ) then onto the covid-pneumonia ward, I looked like something out fo Dr Who, then a few days later they came & put a bag on a pole & shoved more liquid into my arm, 'Good stuff this' said the nurse, its the wonder drug they gave Trump, THREE THOUSAND POUNDS a bag, they gave me 5 of them over 5 days!!
Gradually got a bit stronger & I was off the oxegen, get this, I was the best on the ward, all the others were far worse than me, so I count myself very lucky for a few reasons, 1 they got to me in time, 2 the hospital wasnt overwhelmed like it is right now, & 3, we are relatively fit to come through it, & at 74, I was the oldest on my ward, all others in their 60s.

Upshot is im back home, the kids moved in for a month to look after Jackie, they completely ran the household & did & arranged everything, & whilst I was away, my son took Jackie to the brain hospital in Sheffield where after more scans mri etc, they realised that it had not spread, & would she consider surgery? She jumped at it, & they've scheduled it for the 17th this month.
Reading between the lines, I recon they only bothered to implement all the skills & resources  required as its worth doing & shes so fit for her age, so we're quite optimistic at the moment.
Im getting stronger day by day, but please fellas, dont fob off this shit as no too bad, its Fuc**ing awfull please, please, be very careful, thousands do come through it, but for some its bad, I can walk the living room, but clime ONE stair & I have to sit down to recover, they told me this can go on for many months to come, so im even more useless at the moment than ive ever been. but at least im back home.

I DO have to grow old, I DO NOT have to grow up.

Very sorry to hear about your wife Lawrie but glad you are getting through it okay.  It pisses me off when all these tits go on rallies and parties saying there is nothing to worry about, my niece is a nurse and she told me that it's not a nice illness to go through so I must stay safe, being an unsociable git I find isolation quite easy.  Keep up with your medication and I hope your wife has a successful operation on the 17th.
Keep the rubber side down.          Mick

Sending all our very best wishes to you and especially Jackie.
Hope things go well with her surgery and you both make good recoveries.
Glad your family is around you and helping.
The very very best of luck to you both.

Jeez Lawrie, that's a hellva lot of shit luck, one after the other.  I hope your wife comes through the surgery fine & can continue your life together.  It will be very frustrating for you not being able to do stuff all, you've always been so active.  Least you had family there to hold the fort & help.  I guess it's just rest & gradually building your strength back up, may take a while, but you'll get there.

Best wishes to you both!
😎  Always looking for the next corner.  😎

Not good at all Lawrie, thanks for sharing though, wishing both you and Jackie all the best that everything turns out well.
Nothing to do.............all day to do it....I love retirement

Jesus, Lawrie - any of those things would put a weaker man down - all of them on top of each other and you're doing remarkably well, considering.

Naturally we all wish the very best for you and your wife - and its encouraging that the tumour is not spreading, certainly.

Obviously we can't do anything medically, but if there's anything else we can do (the GSX1400 org network is a good 'un) please don't hesitate to shout out (PM if you'd prefer)

Lawrie,
Sounds like you and your good lady are really going through the mill.  It just makes me realise how lucky I (we) are.
On the other hand, it also sounds as though you have a good strong family around you. I wish you both the very best.  Good luck on the 17th.

Kindest regards Chip and Coral (Mrs Chip)
I have a 2003 GSX1400 owned since new (Blue and White of course).  I have a 1977 Suzuki GT380 cafĂ© racer and A Japanese import Yamaha XG250 Tricker.  I'm interested in anything mechanical.  Was an aircraft technician / inspector, but I took early retirement - because I could!

Feel for you Lawrie, you've been through hell and not out the other side yet. Hopefully they can sort Jackie out and she recovers fully and obviously glad you beat Covid. Good luck with all your family's health issues.
