Double post, sorry. Bluey, the front sticking makes me think ill try Metz next. I liked that stuck to road feel b4, sure doesnt happen with Angel. Very light in front feel. Some like the quick turning, i agree. That planted feel i prefer. XJR Yam has that planted feeling much more than 14. just my opinion.

So.. I still puzzled. There's no right answer I suppose, just a few wrong ones.

I guess it all depends on what sort of "feel and feedback" you want from a tyre.  I don't think there are any "bad" tyres out there. Also take note of the profiles of the tyres as well.  The front tyre profile is sharper in drop off on the Angel, compared to the Roadtec.  Which is why it tends to drop into corners when you reach a certain lean angle.  I think this is taken from their pirelli race tyres - as I've read in articles where teams have changed tyre sponsors, many have said that the pirelli race tyre does the same thing.  The Roadtec is more rounded in profile. So for me, what ever effort I put in when cornering, I feel that I get a linear response from the tyre.  So a little effort gets an even amount of response..  with the Angel - again for me.  I get that response until I reach a certain lean angle, which is quite early in the lean and then it just wants to drop several degrees in lean angle "dropping into the corner" like oversteer, which I have not been able to tune out with suspension settings yet.

Whenever I've changed tyres, I initially don't change suspension settings for a while..  as it gives me a good comparison of what the new tyre is like, compared to what I removed..  hence my comments that the Angel GT needs different suspension settings to Roadtec-01 and that the Roadtec-01 is a more comfortable and neutral handling tyre than the Angel GT on the same suspension settings.

I have a matrix I use to help me with fine tuning my suspension.  which helps to fine tune in the right direction according to what I am experiencing or feel when riding.  Understeer, over steer etc etc then adjust A/B/C type thing.  Along with taking lots of notes after a ride and associating that with the suspension settings.

I'm certainly no expert, but doing this has enabled me to get the bike to handle the way I want.

I'm still fine tuning the new suspension on the 1400 that I installed, its very close to what I want now.

When I'm done, I'll post the settings in case they might come in handy for anyone else running similar suspension.

That matrix sounds like good thing maybe you;d like to do a thread on that for us on day?

As far as tyres go - is there any consensus at all as to (between the Angel and Roadtec) which last longer and which are best i rain.
Also is one preferable given the bulk of miles are commuting (centre of the tyre) as opposed to mountain carving?

@VladTepes

looking at the wear rates so far on the Angel GT's I have on both bikes.  Also keeping in mind that about 100% of my riding is open road highway with mountain roads through the Oxley each weekend and I have my wife as pillion about 80% of the time..

I can see that the Angel GT will last longer than the Metzeler Roadtec-01.

In the rain?  I'll take the Roadtec01 over the Angel GT.

But ...  bear in mind that there is now the Angel GT2 and there is the Roadtec-01 SE..

not seen any long term tests on the Roadtec01SE.

The one big complaint I have read about on the Angel GT2 is that in some cases and on certain bikes it seems to want to tram-line badly due to the two centre grooves now running the circumference of the tyre.  But take that with a grain of salt.  Some riders have complained about it, others have not.

I didn't want to take the chance, which is why I bought the old model Angel GT.

I got 10,000 klms from the Roadtec01 (rear tyre) on the VFR which was about 95% two-up riding.

VladTepes

Thanks yes I had read of the two new tyres - may not even be able to get old ones, who knows.
I'll have another chat with my tyre guy, http://daveoliversmotorcycletyres.com.au/

Mate with MT10, fitted Angel 2 on front. Original Angel still on rear. Tells me he cant notice any difference , rides same as when original front Angel was new. Looks funny to me, the 2 lines running around centre, very old skool.

QuoteI've yet to ride the 1400 in the rain with the Angel GTs
Have you yet?
Not yet, hasn't been much rain up here.

Well, you can't  complain about a lack of rain anymore can you ?!

I'm 95% on getting the Metzelers at this point.

Looks totally wrong on a 'modern' bike even a retro like ours.
Belongs on a cafe racer.

Talking today to Mate who fitted Angel 2 after original Angel. He doesnt like them, he did the originals. Reckons much more solid, bouncy. Slip more. Slide easier under power. Hasnt changed any suspension settings. Interesting comments from one tyre to next generation i thought. Said b4, i dont like the tread pattern.

Number of reviews below on Angel 2 report high speed wobbles and tram tracking.

A bunch of crap. I've had two sets of the new/old railway track tread patterns. They stick like shit to a blanket and hold their line at all speeds. People need to pay more attention to their tyre pressures than writing crap reports.  :furious: :furious: :furious:

Chris, just reporting what my mate said. Ive been nothing but praise for original Angels since my first set 2013. This is  his second set, originals then 2s, he does ride very hard. They are on different bike to ours. Mine still have a lot left so not concerned.

Just to add to this
I'm on my 1st set of angel gt2's and they are doing just great .
Currently looking quite worn now with just under 8000 miles .
They have been a bit better than the gt's I've had before (4 sets) that did nearer 10k miles
The gt's and gt2's are great 8n the wet with the 2's having the edge .
I'll be needing another pair soon and will be refitting gt2's again .
only a slightly modified gsx1400
oh and a standard one too

It all depends on what spec you have A or B.
