Cracked caliper

Today I stripped my front calipers to put new seals and repaint them.
I had pretty much finished scrubbing them, so took them to wash them down and I found this crack.
The exterior of the caliper shows an extremely slight abrasion (you have to really look to see it)
needless to say its not going back on the bike.

Yeah, buggered alright, but how the hell did it get like that?  Maybe from new?

pity its the bolt up side and the back halves are all the same

Gee whizz you're very thorough @insane1400. I would never attempt what you've done so can't really imagine I'd be looking that closely TBH.

It's not like that recent topic of sump casting looking like cracks

The bike is newish to me and I wanted to repaint the calipers so I thought I may as well redo all the seals etc. I have never done it before, but there is enough information around to help me get the job done. Now I am really glad I decided to go so far.
