Has anyone heard about this?
I've been told the goverment is considering changing from a state based to national system of number plates (rego plates)

For 'efficiency'  (which in truth probably means tracking vehicles, and issuing traffic fines etc more easily)

Might just be a stupid rumour as i canl;t find anythign on the net.

In order to remove duplicates apparently they will just base it on whoever got a particular combination first.

So let's say for example someone in QLD has GSX14 and someone in NSW also has GSX14 - whoever was first will keep it, the other person won't be allowed to have it.  Be a pretty common issue with personalised plates I'd reckon.

You have probably answered your own question. A bit like the tradies Utes which were going to be electric!

It won't happen in Queensland as they need to be able to identify southerners coming across the border.

GSX1400 K5 now sold
1981 GS1000G

Most heavy vehicles in Australia now have rego plates marked as national. I don't see any reason why they would go to the expense of changing millions of car, bike and other vehicles.

"Expense" sure the tax payer will foot the bill anyway.

The expenses will be carried by the vehicle owners, as usual. Would be a nice economic boost for the plate industry. :stir:

Small countries like NZ have a national system, big countries like Australia & USA etc have state systems, would be just tooooo big otherwise.

I can't understand how NZ can have one National System when you's have two big separate islands. Where I am, we have one little island with two big separate systems  :confused1:

Just like the expense every time they change the speed limits on roads.

Counties here have their own.

That's what happens when you rape and pillage.

As Private plates are a source of revenue for State Governments that are not allowed to Tax the Public, I don't see them giving up a cash cow.
May the sun be warm & shining and your roads be smooth & winding.
