Top end ticking Noise?

Morning All,

On my last couple of start ups, from cold, I have noticed after a couple of minutes, a top end ticking noise? Seems to be around the centre/left hand side (whilst sat on the bike).
I have owned my K2 since 2012 and it only has currently 4700 miles on it. I have never noticed this sound until recentley?
I had a oil & filter change, and a healthcheck done at a Suzuki dealer Oct 2019 (Padgetts of Batley) but have only done a couple of hundred miles since.
I dont notice the noise when riding, only tickover, and the bike is running fine?
I have previously used Silkolene Comp 4 engine oil, but Padgetts have used Yamalube 10W-40 semi synthetic engine oil.
I have read that different oils can effect the ammount of engine noise you hear?
Or could it be something more serious? Just seems strange I have noticed this noise since the last oil change?

Any advice/suggestions please?

Buy some earplugs you'll never hear it again  :stir: :stir: :stir:

Best allrounder I've ever owned 👍

Breeze, im no help but a story. My mate changed oil in his MT10, Yamalube drained out, Gulf Western replaced. He now has a ticking noise not there before. Strange story like yours.

Hooli

One reason I use the oil I do is the engine makes less noise with it.

However, that also sounds like the right place to be able to hear a PAIRs valve - they are just reed valves that let fresh air into the exhaust at low throttle openings. The are under the square covers on top of the cam cover with the pipes going off under the tank.

Cheers
What engine oil do you use?
Wouls an oil change effect the pairs system though?

Hooli

Oil change won't affect the pairs no.

I use halfords semi bike oil, but don't start that convo or you'll get everyone here telling you their favourite.

Time  for an Italian  tune up - ride it like you stole it
I try to take one day at a time, however sometimes several days catch up with me at once.

If you do that, the ticking will definitely go to tocking!
😎  Always looking for the next corner.  😎

Recently changed helmet. That sure made the motor sound different and the exhaust.

Ha, Grog, same, my old shark was noisy in comparison to my new Shoei, but my bike does sound different.  No ticking though....

Maybe a leaky spark plug wire. Or it loosened up where it screws in the cap. I had this on mine. Made a light ticking noise.

Possibly the intake/exhaust valves need the gaps set.
May the sun be warm & shining and your roads be smooth & winding.

My first thought as well but the bike only has 4700 miles on it! Would be very unlikely on a 14 to need this done so early.

Thanks for the suggestions guys!
Been on a blast today so engine nice and hot! Noise still there when I got back at tickover. Trying to listen to it, sounds like it's coming from the cam chain area?? Do these need adjusting at 4700 miles??

Andre

Cam chain tensioner does it automatically.

Tip: use a large long screwdriver and hold the tip onto the spots you suspect (NOT on the sparc wires!!!). The handle goes to your ear. Alternative: automotive stethoscope.
