My bike never had park light in headlight. Wiring was there so i drilled shell and fitted one. Just wondering how many do or how many dont have light as standard. Reason i fitted was headlight had blown, id ridden home invisible in low light. Park light now as backup.

High and low beam blown Grog!

No Irish, id just ridden where headlight not needed to see, just on dark and for others to see me. Low beam and didnt know it was out until i pulled into shed. Is there usually park globe in headlight on 14, not on mine but wiring there for it. WTF.

Andre

Mine has one.

No park light seems to be an Oz thing.

I used the 'Position Light' connection from within the head light (as nothing connected to it). When ignition switch on, she fires up with 12 volts.

It's a bit of luck it appears, as to whether you get a front park bulb that goes.  Both my K6's have (had) the same dealer fit headlight assembly, the black had a working front park, the blue didn't & still doesn't.  That one just don't go.  Not worried about it though.

Not a question of luck here in G as it is mandatory.

I tried 2 led in socket i fitted, both failed in a few weeks. Were supposed quality from local. Put old skool globe back in, been going for years.

Mister Fishfinger

No park light in my UK model K5.

My K7 in Oz has not got front park light, if it had maybe I would have seen it on as I walked away to my motel room, next morning flat battery. Lucky the guy next door had one of those jumper packs.

Amazing how such an innocious subject can get us wondering! For what its worth, my UK K3 model does have a parking light but as it can only be activated via the steering-lock `on` position the bike cannot be ridden with it on for safety reasons. After all, it is what it says on the tin - a parking light!
However, it is worth noting that according to the K3 owners manual Ref. pages 10 & 17, the general lighting specs are different for Australian & Italian machines in order that `local legislation` is complied with.....

As my K2 has no emergency flasher function, I can switch the parking light on either with the ignition key in park position or with the light switch on the right. First position on the switch pilot light (note the name change), second position pilot light and headlight. All that changed with the K3. Headlight from then on always on and light switch now for emergency flasher. At least that's the history in G.

On the later models k5 on the park light should work when you lock the bike in park mode with ignition turned fully left .
The light also comes on with the headlight in normal operation of the bike probably incase the buld blows so you can be seen by other road users at night while safely stopping but I would and to try it at speed .
only a slightly modified gsx1400
oh and a standard one too

I have my headlights wired so they are off during the day (unless I switch them on) so my parking light is my DRL as it comes on with the ignition.  All UK bikes must have a parking light.
Keep the rubber side down.          Mick

The reason why Australian rules have only parking light on rear of vehicle is because in Oz you are not allowed to park facing into oncoming traffic thus only tail light and reflector. This is an issue I hate in the UK especially with car parking opposite direction meaning they are driving into oncoming and can't see because of the vehicle parked in front. N.I. is really bad for it, if I was a Aussie Highway Patrol here I would make the system a bloody fortune.

Highway Code says the same - do not park on the right hand side of a street unless it is one-way( at least it did when I sat my test in 1972 as that was one of the questions )  :)
