Woman at work last week, fr pads nearly worn thru, f tyres steel hanging out. cant afford to fix. Was driving to Sydney. Spent her money, $2g on a dog instead. WTF.

Grog you should have stopped her leaving the workshop. Duty of Care in my trade I have shutdown machinery and tagged it out if I have reason for it to be dangerous to the operator or others.
The last Blue Slip I got done on a Nissan Patrol cost me $1000 extra for 4 new tyres because the one's on it where 7 years old, there was nothing wrong with them but the inspector with the ticket said they had to be replaced.

Irish, abs correct. I didnt see or have anything to to with it. Just heard later.

This is interesting, with all these stringent tests & mostly new cars, are the roads over there in NI & UK much safer? ie has the death toll dropped significantly with these new regulations?  It's not a wind up, just asking, as down this neck of the planet we have a lot of older cars, so a perspective from a different environment would be good.

I love a good statistic so I thought I would look into it. I found this interesting interactive map:

https://extranet.who.int/roadsafety/death-on-the-roads/#deaths

So the UK is 3.1 deaths per 100K people, Australia is almost twice as bad at 5.6. But both of those are a lot better than the USA which is 12.4.

Thailand is horrendous, 32.7.

The only ones I could find better than the UK were Norway and Sweden, but feel free to have a look yourselves.

Switzerland 2.7

African countries seem to be the worst.

Thanks for putting that link up Fishy.  7.8 for NZ!?  There are a lot of tourist deaths here, they come over for a holiday & our roads are not like they're used to & a lot more challenging in places, sadly some of them die in crashes.
We also have a lot of teenagers involved in big crashes, they seem to find out the hard way that real life driving isn't quite the same as computer / xbox driving, there are real consequences when things go wrong.

I have a Volvo, so does that mean they are safer to drive or safer to crash  :confused1:

Irish the stats say are safer..... often because they are broken down.
Safer for the other road users because we all know to steer clear of the invincible Volvo driver.   :whistling:
But kinda true.
Another great day on the right side of the grass.😎

Some time ago I read an article in a motoring magazine that claimed the insurance for Volvo drivers was higher...
Why?
Because the Volvo drivers drove in a more inconsiderate way due to their belief that they couldn't get hurt if they were involved in an accident..

On a slightly different note, in my area the saying is "Audi drivers are the new BMW drivers..
In other words Audi drivers are now the inconsiderate **sholes of the road..
Have to admit there does seem to be more nutters in Audis than there used to be.

I wonder if Sir David Barmy still has his lovely red Audi ?    there could be a ban coming . . .   :whistling:

I often do a 200 mile round trip from Belfast to Enniskillen going to the Gin Palace. The road is mostly motorway and dual carriageway and very good quality A class country roads, the national limits of 60 and 70 mph apply. I stick to those limits except when I am speeding, but every time someone overtakes me they will certainly be driving a BWM Audi or Merc so I assume they come with a exemption certificate or they are built for the Autobahn so can do those speeds.

I don't mind people going fast in the right conditions, but I swear if there is someone driving 5mm from my arse - chances are it will be an Audi.

100% correct, I think it's part of the sales pitch "are you an inconsiderate arsehole who constantly tailgates other road users, if the answer is no we cannot sell you an Audi"
Keep the rubber side down.          Mick
