G'day,
Did a search and cant seem to find the answer , someone here bound to know. A few times I have ordered parts and told the Stealer its an 08 model ,they have said "cant be" (didn't instill a lot of confidence) was wondering when was the last one off the assembly line , what month and to which country was it exported ( could be in the Suzuki collection in the land of the rising sun I suppose)
            Have a good day/night, :smile2:

From my understanding, production stopped in 2007.  Some models were still sitting at stealers in 2008 & 2009 & thus when the registered them for the first time it comes up as new 2009.

Put a pic up & the boys will be able to tell what model it is from the paintwork - assuming it's still std.  There's a thread here somewhere with pic's of all the models & the paintwork, but seeing as I'm at work, better not go looking for it for ya.

***  There was a couple of 2008 versions around, they're not common by any means, think the were done after the production run & have different paint again. There's 1 in UK & Barmy was keen, but it went for silly money.

Mine (Very late model Black AU bike) has a build / compliance date of 9/08. The AU Special Edition is an 08 but I've seen a couple of black bikes with later build / compliance dates.

The UK "Final Edition" is only a late UK bike. Aren't they an 06 or similar ?

The info would be on each VIN plate, model & year.  That'd be easiest way to check.

In the U.K. , whilst the last model sold was the K7, the first final edition was actually the K5 - models post the K5 only had cosmetic changes (different paint styles), and I believe this was also true of the K8 Special Edition sold down u def.

So K5,6,7,8 all the same except for cosmetic changes to paintwork.
Nothing to do.............all day to do it....I love retirement

Its interesting that it states "the aluminum cylinder walls were coated with something called Suzuki Composite Electrochemical Material (SMEC). " from the K5 onwards!!

Does this mean the earlier versions dont have that coating and therefor dont need to have such regular oil changes?

Or have I got it wrong (again)

That'll be the ceramic coating Seth often mentions.

[/quoteThe compliance plate on mine is 09/08 but that doesn't tell you the manufacture date (should be close but may not be)with some cars you can decipher the manufacture from the VINumber but don't know about these . I bought it S/Hand and as its black and has the script on the tank not the S symbol (PO could have changed it])it seems like an older model. According to the link supplied final year was blue and white . I was just curious about the last date they were manufactured and how you tell  :confused1:

the (SMEC) coating on the barrels is across all years .
It's how they got the cylinders to be so big without using metal liners(No room for them)
All big cc 4 cylinder motors do this across different manufacturer's where a smaller engine is given a bigger cc.
Yamaha xjr 1300 is a very good example as it started life as an xs1100.
Different manufacturer call the coating different names but it's basically a ceramic hard wearing coating (and the reason for the short oil change intervals)
A friend on mine brought one of the last gsx1400's sold in Scotland it was a k7 but registered in 2008 .
I have seen 2 k7's that have 2009 registrations (the last bikes here k7/k8 and k9 All had k7 paint work).
only a slightly modified gsx1400
oh and a standard one too

Mine is first registered in January 2010. It was a demo bike so would have run with a dealer plate on for a while.
Built date on the plate is 5/08
Another great day on the right side of the grass.😎
