Well I progressed a bit more today before rain stopped play.

I've been through the wiring to the oil temp sensor, it's fine. No extra resistances all the way back to the ECU. So that's not my running issue after all. However No1 plug well was totally full of petrol... Odd as I've never smelt petrol riding it but it appears to have a small leak from the front left tank mount. I've scraped it clean & can see the rust I treated ages ago, but can't spot a hole.
I rather suspect I'm going to end up lining the tank to sort it.

The old headlight is now fully off, the clocks are off & awaiting the special glue to fix the inside black plastic bit. Then they can go in the replacement casing @seth gave me. I've not got as far as fixing the wiring in the headlight, I'm doing it outside for more space & light. So when it rains I stop. I did however wash the worst of the mud & ploughed fields off from behind places like the side panels once it was raining, so it's a little tidier once back together.

Well not today but went out on the bike on Friday for the day as I had some time off work, the first time since I fitted the additional earth cable a week or two ago, the bike seems to be running so much smoother and pulling like a train - is that even possible? even the rough idle seems to have gone away

I was going to go again today but feeling absolutely drained still after having Covid a few weeks ago, glad iv'e had two jabs as that is some bad arse crap! So decided on a clean and polish couple of hours  :happy1:

I dug out the chain to fit the my ZRX build and the bloody thing was a 525 not a 530  :furious: :furious: and to make it worse is a super heavy duty chain - checked the box it came in and was bought in 2014 so must have been for my ZX9r

Ach well

Different sprockets to convert it? 525 is just a bit thinner isn't it?

Del

@Hooli yeah mate could do that but bought good sprockets so easier to get a 530 chain and punt the 525 - Im not even gonna go into the hassle that fitting the carbs back into the ZRX Ill just say no knuckle skin on one hand

Today I finally took the clocks apart for my 14 to fix the broken inner casing with the magic glue suggested by @seth.

The stuff actually works too! Somehow after trial fitting all the bits several times to make sure I knew which way to wiggle them all in, the last bit wouldn't fit once glued. About 20mins careful filing got it to shape again though & in it went. As tempting as it is to rebuild the clocks tonight, I'll leave them to make sure it's totally dry & solid. But provided they fit back together ok in the cases Seth also gave me, than they can go back on the bike. I priced up the part out of interest & it's £90 for a bit of plastic so this is well worth trying.

That'll just leave fitting the replacement headlight I've got & awaiting the tank back from a friend who is welding the leak & damaged mount I found when I took it off.

It's in danger of getting back on the road again...

Told you it worked just getting the right glue for the type of plastic works well .

Hopefully it's all sorted asap .

I was hoping for the tank this weekend, but he's not about.

Then I need to decide if I should MOT & tax it or wait for spring, I can see it being out all winter yet again tbh.

KiwiCol

Got a new WOF (read MOT) for the bike.

What a fecken hassle that was, took it in last Friday, thought I'd get chucked out on tires, but no, they're close, but just in spec.  What they did kick me out on is the headlight & throttle return. The headlight was an optional dealer fit here, it's been on the bike since new in 2006, yet the 'inspector' at the Suzuki dealership, said it was wired up wrong, should be the other way round.  No amount of explaining that it's been like that for 15 years & it isn't wired wrong could convince them.  The throttle return was a little slow & they blamed it on the cruise control fitted. They wanted that removed (by them, and also 'fix' the wiring)  I told them to leave the bike alone & I'd pick it up as it was.

So I collected the bike Friday night, fumed for a few hours  :furious: :furious: & Saturday morning set about making the changes they wanted. Set up a light board, and the pattern was perfect!  How the hell can I make this 'right' when it already is right???   I just did what they wanted, wired the high beam to be on on low beam switch & the low beam to be on at high beam!!??   Bloody mad, I know!

Removed the cruise control, throttle still the same, slightly slow, pull it apart, spray lube down the cables, seems fine. Reassembled & fitted back on the bike.  I noted it was good in some positions & tighter in others, & that's what the issue was all along, if you could call it an issue. The return is a subjective thing, how many milliseconds should it take to snap back?  there isn't a figure in the code for that, like there is for tread depth etc.

So I take it back yesterday for a re-check, oh no, you have to book in!  :furious: :furious:  Crap,  :furious: I've been in every time previous & they do it while you wait. So go back again today, knowing my light is wrong, it's awful riding knowing your bike is wrong.  Anyway, jobsworth gets it and takes it in to the service bay, checks the light & pronounces it correct.  He's happy with the throttle & I get my WOF.

I ride home & immediately have the light off & wire it up correctly, set it & check it on the light board, all good. Re-fit the cruise control, -throttle still fine.

I double checked on the NZTA site for how low beam pattern should be, _(below the horizontal and to the left) and guess who's right, not the moron's at the stealership!!  Last time I ever go back. I know everyone is hurting because of business downturn, but pissing your customers off & ripping them off isn't going to create any good will or repeat custom.  I'm done with those guys, I'll buy my stuff online from now.

Oh & I've ordered some new Mitchy road 5's for the girl, now to fine somewhere to fit them . . .   or buy more tools?  :coffeescreen:

They sound like total frogwits. Somewhere else next year. Doesnt make any sense what they said. The headlight thing has me confused.

What a joke - or it would be if it was funny.

Def time to find someone more useful next time.

Sounds great fun...

BTW, a sticky throttle if on just you need to take the throttle tube off the bars & regrease under it. I don't think you mentioned that in your fixes.

KiwiCol

Yeah, I did that too Hooli, just forgot to put that bit in there. It's sweet now.

The pic below shows what I found for the beam pattern & it's how the bike is set up now. (again)
