Quote from: Horse on Sunday, 10 August  2025, 10:27 PMIs the TPS resistance consistent with the throttle opening from closed to WOT,when mine started to go bad it gave a good idle value but the ohm meter was indicating inconsistency at other openings, just a thought

cheers Horse, both TPS and STPS are new genuine Suzuki items from webike Japan. Yes, with a multimeter attached, you can see where the track inside the sensor goes bad, the signal drops away or gets intermittent.  Checked the Ohms on the TPS, its withing spec.

Not relevant here, but just for completeness. The other way those sensors fail is the dirty tracks short between each other, so rather than a steady resistance between power & earth for the full sweep, you see the same changes in resistance as the sensor feedback wire gives. The workshop manual doesn't mention checking for this fault either.

Fitted my ground anchor, garage is like a fecking sauna

Payed bikes rego for another year, $570. No annual checks here just a bill every 12 months.

Every time those $500+ renewals roll in I start to think I have too many bikes. A quick lap of the shed and garage reveals space for more, so I'm once again convinced that can't possibly be the case.

I'm road tripping down near Sydney this weekend to collect the freshened up motor for my XS650 (now XS750) actually. I might even get it back on the road one day and add another rego bill

I know folk with heaps more bikes than me. One of my neighbours has an OW02 R7 brand new amongst a heap of other bikes.  Another neighbour has a large collection of CB750 Automatics of all things.

I've never found owning vehicles needed to be based around practicality or what's the sensible thing to do. More so what makes you happy.

Similar here.   Most of my life is pretty modest financially. I downsized my home, mostly use a 7 year old base model Ute, rarely buy clothes or eat out, no kids, I don't drink smoke or gamble.  I do like vehicles. 2 cars, a tractor, 9 complete bikes and several in bits.  There's never a day I don't watch Marketplace, Ebay, Gumtree and various Sales pages. I often drive a couple of hours for a $10 part. Always have a space saved for the next bike. I have mezzanine with a heap of spares, some new and unopened.

It's my little hobby that finds me my happy place.
I'd rather have another rego to pay than spend dollars where many other folk do.

I know folks with some pretty big collections. One guy local has a heap of bikes including a brand new OW02 R7 amongst a heap of others, another guy has a surprising amount of CB750 Automatics,  another has an Indian 841, shaft drive, across the frame V (like a CX) and left hand throttle amongst his.
I've never found a need for owning bikes to be practical or sensible, just what you're into and what makes you happy.

Whatever makes you happy, exactly correct. I was never happy with just one but these days i am. Lurch, exactly 50 yrs since i bought a new XS650B. Unreal bike. I did up&down east coast of Oz twice.Had numerous exhausts, could be a cafe racer or chopper, custom paint, chrome engine sidecovers, harley back wheel.Never a problem bike.

Getting a bit over it tbh. Checked all connectors in thr headlight bowl, all ok. Swapped IAP and MAP around, no real difference. Removed, checked and refitted vac lines, no change. Bike runs but every once in a while stutters and you can hear like a pop or knock coming back through the airbox at idle, like a valve is not closing.

Runs OK over 3000rpm, but drinks too much fuel.  Compression is great, no valve train noise and fuel system is clean. Plugs are good, ht leads good.

Will remove the TRE I fitted many moons ago in case thats failed, and try to balance the TB's or at least see if they are imbalanced at all.

If that doesn't show any change, valve clearance check or cylinder head will come off, maybe a bare frame restoration....

Just thinking, reading on another forum that a loose cam chain or failing tensioner can cause mis-timing or rough running.  But then the chain would have had to jump a tooth or two and theres no noise to evidence that.  May check csn chain tensioner anyway....

What a bloody nightmare Eric, could be time to get "SUPER HOOLI" a plane ticket . . .     I'm sure he'd love to see Aussie.

Total PIA Eric. Not sure id still own it by now🤷. You did check fuel pressure??Low pressure does some strange things, can even make them appear rich. Other thought, maybe faulty ECU. Getting a loaner to check, not easy. I know on Mitsubishi computers, can actually see on circuit board where acid has leaked, goes grey/ black colour. Yours has Panasonic, just guessing that could be same check.Ive run out of other ideas.Cam tensioner, a thought but wouldve thought a rattle.

Thanks, I forgot to mention I'll change rectifier back to old one. Weird thing is the new one did not cause issues, but you never know i guess.  Fuel flow rate is well above spec, but I've not got a way to check pressure. It still fires up first press, just doesn't want to idle unless given a handful, then when it does, its choppy. Adjusted throttle cables as well as it didn't return to the stop smoothly.  Checked that stva was also working, shone a torch into the airbox and watched the secondaries move to full close and back when ignition is turned on, so thats working too.

Swapped mosfet rectifier for old one, no change, still carries on spitting and rough running.

Decided to go back to square 1: spark / fuel / air.  Pulled spark plugs out again and this time checked them on the multimeter, last time was just a visual check and clean up, as they were relatively new.

Multimeter results below, looks like #2 is the culprit....

Wow, maybe after all that it was a crook plug?

Went to my local Repco to get 4 off NGK CR8EK plugs, their website showed they had them. SCA doesn't, and they'll try to sell you their in house brand.  Anyway, "sorry sir, we don't have any on the shelf. Nearest next store didn't have any either. Ordered them online, should have them Monday.
