Today I had the day off work & it's become quite a bikey day...

This morning was new forkseals in A-Tard's K4. I dropped the yokes out & greased the steering bearings too, because as we all know the Suzuki factory doesn't own a tub of grease. The top one has some marking on the outer race so could do with replacing at some point, she's not doing big miles though & it's now smooth so not mega urgent. I only took one pic of the entire process as she was there for most of it & learning as we went along.
Someone had obviously been in there before as the oil was quite fresh & there was normal high temp grease stuck in the old seals! They didn't know what they were doing though as the nut on the damper tube was 5mm different between the legs (as we all know it should be 11mm from the top). So rebuilt properly they no longer leak from a run around the car park & some heavy stops to test. I also reset the forks to MCN settings as the rebound damper relies on that nut's position to be correct.
I also found the tank breather was trapped under the tank so blocked, not sure why she'd never had a running issue from it. I guess the tank was sucking air past the cap seal. Rerouted & sorted that while in there anyway.

Then once home I had another go at getting Quinn clean from Norway. Loads of grey sludge had baked on to the engine cases & between the fins from wet rockdust on the roads. Turns out the plastic washing up brush I got to scrub the K&N does a great job with some not very dilute TFR (bottle says 100:1, I used 4:1).

Now eating pizza & out for a beer later.

2 very nice jobs Hooli!  The HD comes up real nice doesn't it.  What's TFR?
😎  Always looking for the next corner.  😎

Hooli

It should do Col it's still new in my book! 3 1/2 years I've had it now, matches in quite well with the 35k mile service due in about 450 miles.

TFR is Traffic Film Remover. It's often used for truck washes etc & I bought 5ltrs of it from a local cash n carry as I remembered how well it cleaned when I worked at a Volvo dealer decades go. Needs rising off quite quick after use or it leaves strange pale spots, but worked a treat for what I wanted it for.

What engine is that?  Not a Milwaukee 8 is it?

Yup, M8 107" in HD speak or 1745cc to the rest of us.
It's new enough they solved the oil pump issues on them though, so bar the compensator* issues some have I've not heard of many problems with them.

*no idea why they call it that, it's just a front sprocket for the primary chain with some shock absorbing built in. I think it's kinda like the crush drive on a rear sprocket.

Today installed exterior metal Filter aliexpres with filter paper interior in pump entrance, just below of the gas tube angle in mi K6

Before increased inner diameter input and exit to 4.5mm

misfire, running really rich. All sensors check out, tps and stps and stva all good..suspected either coked up valves or blown head gasket, but comp test came back good.  Maybe trimming a bit off the ht leads will sort it.
I try to take one day at a time, however sometimes several days catch up with me at once.

KiwiCol

Can it breathe ok Eric?  Is the air cleaner ok?  Try running it with a spare filter n see?

Have we had the oil temp sensor conversation? that's the main controller for mixture on these old things.

Eric sounds like same symptoms I had. It would spit and fart black smoke. Would die if i didn't hold it at nearly 3000rpm. Next morning start it and it ran clean. Half an hour later it would turn to shit again.
I belive i cleaned electrical connections in the headlight and it fixed it. I have no idea about electrics other than they need to be clean, connected and have an earth. Never had an issue since.
Another great day on the right side of the grass.😎

Cheers lads, yes  Hooli, oil temp sensor checks out.

KWF, thanks for the tip, will check in the headlight bowl.

Is the TPS resistance consistent with the throttle opening from closed to WOT,when mine started to go bad it gave a good idle value but the ohm meter was indicating inconsistency at other openings, just a thought

Horse,
Change is easy improvement somewhat more difficult :Dr Porsche

cheers Horse, both TPS and STPS are new genuine Suzuki items from webike Japan. Yes, with a multimeter attached, you can see where the track inside the sensor goes bad, the signal drops away or gets intermittent.  Checked the Ohms on the TPS, its withing spec.
