Hi all, have been perusing in here a bit to remind myself what I'm doing (with the bike at least), thought I'd say gday and shout a round  Have several little jobs going, bike sat for a while, I did some basic care, then rode it daily. Now I've got things apart she's getting a proper clean and love up. Not Barmy clean, but better. Todays job is cleaning the pump and saoking the tank with vinegar, flaky rust still appearing in the external filter. Real shame about the paint on these and the bits of rust starting up. Ideally I'd like to strip it and paint the frame again, for now she'll just get some touching up.

:rofl2: "..but better than it was before" it should have read! My old thing is one of those looks clean from 10 paces bikes. Chris, my phone won't upload pics to the computer, so no pics that way. Might see if I can work out how to from the phone. Managed to not break any plastic or seals pulling the pump apart. The amount of brown colour I flushed from the hp fuel filter was pretty alarming. Missed my window for a trip to get vinegar for the tank soak today. I beleive you can use HCl in a 10/1 mix, which I'll do if I cant get to the hardware again tomorrow.

I post all my pics via the app on my iPhone you do need to adjust size however it's reasonably easy 🤞

Just an fyi on the pic uploading, a max of 2mb per post, that can be 1 pic at 2mb or 4 pic's at 500kb.   Just resize them down, it saves storage space on the system.

Pics from phone i find easiest. Free downsize photo app adjusts size then just add to post. PC still works but mine only downloads camera pics when it feels like it. Probably a female computer

I use a Chromebook, it's all app based, there is one for resizing pics, 2 clicks and you're done.

Wired my fuses in today Kiwicol and Grog.

Got denied access in here for a bit, but only from the phone, it seems to be sorted now. The filth cleaned from the hp filter, rust under the tank, and frame. Some prep and kill rust is going on here, it's a good match. I had a bikini fairing on, thinking it would also protect the gauges.. never got cleaned properly due to difficulty removing, so now they and the headlight bowl are damaged with corrosion. Any tips on repairing plastic chrome welcome, but doesn't seem possible.

My headlight and gauges were similar because the previous owner had a small screen on that he never bothered to remove. I've always used a very fine steel wool followed by something to protect. Brought mine up like new but you do need to be careful not to get too carried away

My headlight has rub mark from screen. Very annoying, too deep to fix. Screens much more trouble than any advantage IMO.

Just the headlight rim or the bucket? Believe it or not but the rim is only about $55 from Webike Japan (and 3 x that from your nearest Suzuki dealer).

I bought a screen when I first bought my 1400 because I thought I liked the look. Never fitted it after I found the mess behind the one that was on it.

Cheers Lurch. Will give it a soak and see how far a polish gets it. May have to resort to some sort of fine abrasive like the wool. Few other things to sort first though. Need to find another approach to this rust in the tank.

grog

Endless, you need to solve your rust in tank. Will haunt forever otherwise. Maybe some sort of sealant?

Absolutely, it's a problem. Need to do some research. Discovered a bunch of water when emptying the tank. At least 200mls. Had been running fine until I moved it into the garage to work on.
