Last year I bought a little Suzuki scooter for the purpose of short journeys etc and to use for visiting/caring for my Ill mother,I insured the scooter with Devitt insurance at a cost of£85 fully comp this was in July 2018,.unfortunately my mother past away in October 2018 so I felt I no longer needed the little scooter so I sold it on around 4 weeks ago.since then I have rung Devitt to say I no longer need the policy running, now bear in mind I never received any documentation or even emails from them with my policy details, all I got was an email with a phone number for claims dept.so there's 4 months remaining on my policy that I wish to cancel and I have to pay them £50,15 p in cancellation fees ,I've stressed I'm not in favour of this ridiculous charge and now I've actually received an email from them saying if I don't pay it within the next 7 days further action will be taken against me,,,,,RANT over, thanks for reading,

Mongrels!   Sounds like you're not going to get the 4 months reimbursement, how the hell they can charge more to cancel a policy than is left owing is astounding.
Just say you're not cancelling it now & let it run out & don't renew it.

You guys have way different / complicated insurance systems than we do.

I tried that col,I said to the advisor I'll leave it running then and made out that I still owned the scooter but she said I've already pressed the cancel request ,nothing back for the 4 months remaining ,,it's bloody ridiculous and infuriating but they have you by the short and curlys I'm afraid,,and to think I was gonna give them a ring when my 1400 and my Z900RS insurance was due,no way now ,shove it Devitt,

My mate just asked Devitt for a green card just incase for when we head over to @Blubber world next week and got charged £15 everyone else got there's free except me and Emma our insurance mce Saud they'll email us if we actually need one.

Insurance here is a joke several decades ago it changed from being insurance service where it was a set price for a certain size of bike the reductions for years of safe riding and additions for driving offences and accidents.
Now it's a market and the price changed for day to day .
It also only seams to come down if you change companies but then it still rises each year till you change to a company that has a deal and it all starts over .
:frustrated:
only a slightly modified gsx1400
oh and a standard one too

Here the longer you've been with someone, the bigger premium discount you get.  Not all companies though & not all policies, but the good ones do.  It's getting damn expensive here though.

I'm with Bennett's for my 14 and Z900RS,they sent my renewal through at £400 so I rang them and asked the advisor if he'd got my age wrong, lol, anyhow I complained about the cost and he looked into it while I was put on hold for a couple of mins.he came back and said they had made a mistake and how does £239 sound, what a difference eh,,,some people just pay and don't ask questions (they hope),

I know it is col but if I cancel halfway through they'll probably want £700 for cancellation fees,👮‍♀️

Best quote I've had (cars and bikes all on one policy) was around £1,800, but it wasn't a company I really wanted to use so in the end I did the bikes and cars through seperate companies.

I don't want to add my vehicles road tax and insurance all together.

£50 to cancel is outrageous. I have never been charged for cancelling a policy.

All insurance companies make a charge if you cancel a policy. Never known them not to, in fact you'll find these days if you ring up to take a policy out, they'll often as not tell you there is an admin charge for both amending and for cancelling a policy.

Also, if you sell a vehicle and don't cancel the policy, you can be prosecuted if the new owner of the vehicle has taken out insurance and is unaware that you have not cancelled the policy you had, as it is illegal in the UK to have 2 insurance policies for one vehicle. So either way they get yu (although normally if the cancellation fee is less than any refund amount, they write off any variance.

When I swapped cars recently, I had a short period of non-insurance and mentioned that to the insurance company. What they did was though was advise that if I re-insured with them with my new car (which I was going to anyway), they would refund the cancellation fee when I took out the new insurance (which I thought was fair).
Nothing to do.............all day to do it....I love retirement

In Oz, just play against each other for best. Youi seem to always come up best. Around $250 for mine. Never heard of cancellation fee, usually just a refund. Guess we get it easier.

I frequently cancel policy's.
I remove vehicles and often don't add another immediately.

The normal reply is "Do you want it credited to anything else or shall I post a cheque out today".

Never had to pay to cancel insurance.

I've changed high risk bikes to low risk ones and had the remaining months paid out.
I've cancelled policy's completely and had a cheque within a few days.

Normally Shannon's or RACQ.

You're lucky in Aus @Tony Nitrous ..
Over here in the UK, most companies charge an admin fee for any mid term policy changes. They charge up to £50 per pop too :furious:

I had an instance a few years ago where I was changing my car to a newer one. My car had a personal plate on it which I wanted to retain for the new vehicle.
1. Call insurance to revert plate back to original..£50 admin.
2. Call insurance to notify of new car..£50 admin.
3. Call insurance when I put personal plate back on new car..£50 admin.

I kicked off on the phone when they tried to charge me the third lot of admin charges and they agreed to waive the charge in this particular instance...I was fuming :furious:
Assumption is the mother of all fuck ups!

I took a Busa off my policy and added a B-King.
No problem, we will send you a cheque for it being lower risk.

I just took another Busa off and added the H2.
No problem, just pay a small fee for the more expensive bike to increase the cover until the policy runs out.

Phoned back a week later, change the bikes personal plate.
No problem, consider it done.

Your road tax (rego) here includes basic 3rd party insurance. If the vehicle has rego / tax then it can be used by anyone with the right licence. If you have a car and bike licence you are legal to use any of my vehicles, just with basic 3rd party personal injury cover.    If they started taking the piss charging fee's here folk just wouldn't bother.
