Quote from: Dwain Dibley on Thursday, 30 April  2026, 06:45 AMI went out to find a cafe today, I was on the CBR1000, cos I cant tax the 1400 til the first of may, who new the reminder is only valid for a month and I would have lost all of April even tho I had paid.
The first place I tried was Halfpenny Green Airport, only to find the cafe was now a posh restaurant....So I buggered off from there, and ended up in Quatford. There used to be a great cafe here but it had to close.
Over the road is another one, but no sign of life, I went in anyway, to find them in the middle of a power cut.
Even so, they boiled some water and made me a coffee, just took a bit longer, I think they did it in a saucepan.

DD, is the Quatt the one with the big car park out front & the cafe was up a few steps with an outside seating area possibly? If so many years ago there was a GSX meet there on a Sunday morning, must have been early in the year as I can remember leaving home with the ground frosty white & warming my hands alternatively on the side of the engine all the way there along the A5, we went from there to Craven Arms. There were some pics on the old ORG, it was the first time I had seen an SE 1400, probably not far off 20 years ago FGS!

That's the one. Just abandoned now. Petrol station next door is now a massive house. When i was a learner our instructors used to buy us butties there.

That's the place. We used to call it, the one stop.  :onya:

Was originally, the club house for the caravan park behind.

Gypsy's have bought the whole site now. Hence the bling, bling house and closed the cafe.

Suspect we will soon see, a second house on the site.

However, the cafe I mentioned just, a few miles up the road at Pool Hall is far better. Food wise and atmosphere too.  :clapping:  :boogie:

Daft question, and you probably have, have you swapped out all the fuses, not just tested, but swapped out for
new ?.

Mr Gee

No, not swapped them but I did, check them all.  :onya:

I'll try swapping them. I'll try anything once. It can't do any harm.

Gave her a bit of a squirt in 4th on the way home, massive grin factor & my arms are now 25mm longer. I can't confirm exactly, but at 195 she was pulling hard as! Not just accelerating, throwing ya back still.    You'd need a disused airfield to really open it right out.

😎  Always looking for the next corner.  😎

Lookin good Col. I had original Rocket to 200, hard to hold onto bars. I guess you know about front shaft splines, same amount of grease as 14 head bearings.Bloody awesome bikes I reckon.

KiwiCol

Yes, the splines apparently didn't get a lot of grease at assembly.  The R3 owners forum document the process of dismantling the swing arm & bevel box to get access to the splines, all very doable if you're a bit mechanically minded.  They have pic's of the process so makes it a less daunting task for sure.  I'll probably look at doing mine around 20,000k mark - co-insides with other more major services.  I'm at 15,500 now, brought it at 5,500 or there abouts.

But when you think about it, how often does a car driveshaft get the splines greased? Not routinely that's for sure.  Honda moly paste onto cleaned surfaces n she'll be good to carry on for years.  Some of the guys are doing spline lubes with every tire change or bevel box oil change. Bit overkill, but it's their bike & their time, so up to them.
😎  Always looking for the next corner.  😎

Correct Col, I've done about 4 million rwd clutches, prob a few less. Greasing splines never on must do list.

Not very warm, few spots of rain, no cafes open... but 134K's is 134K's ! (83 miles)

So, I see that you given up, riding off road and back on the tarmac.  :happy1:  :rofl2:

Just out of curiosity, where is that awesome, piece of tarmac.  :onya:

That the road into where I live !

It used to be a main highway, but long ago before I move there they built a new highway, then blocked off one end of the old one, there's only 4 properties so it's pretty quiet. The other end is a proper maintained road, but I go through the "closed off" end as it leads from my place into the pine forests.

Only 155k's / 96 miles as I needed to be home mid morning.

Most bikes I've owned are what I expect, I know what I'm getting and I'm happy to have them, ones like the Blackbird, Gen-1 Busa's, H2 SX SE maybe not so much, and they don't get to stay.

My blue Gen-2 is the one bike that genuinely grew on me, more than I expected. It was only ever bought as a toy for the drags, a solid platform at less than half the price of a used Gen-3, and one of the best ways to go quick on a budget.

For various reasons the drags never happened, and the bike just got road use... and I love it !

Other than 3 rider modes that no one ever touches it's a similar level of tech to a GSX1400. It's lighter and more powerful than the Gen-3 Busa, it does everything better than a Gen-1 Busa.  I still say if I could only have 1 bike it'd be the Gen-3, but every ride on the Gen-2 is fun, it's just a basic no-frills brute. 08-12, The best out of the crate Busa motor, and no ABS, anti wheelie, traction control etc etc to turn off or reset.  A sort of GSX1400 meets overgrown Sportsbike.

Edit:
Ride #37 this year.
Still on target for my "100 in 2026".

A ride to Collie on my ZZR1200 Sunday to watch my son race. Pleased to say 3 races & 3 wins .. one was equal to his pb time on a unsorted bike - ninja 600
