I deserve to share this with you and maybe raise a smile or two

As a few of you may know I've been rebuilding a Mk1 1200 bandit – all been done but carbs keep bunging up so off they come to get fully stripped and cleaned . . . AGAIN – Cleaned the tank out with 5 litre of acetone – all good I hear you say. So while I'm at it I decide to drop the oil to deal with an oil leak at the neutral switch

New fuel line and inline filter arrive and I set about refitting the carbs – done this 3 or 4 times now so all going well – fitted primed and hit the switch – running like a dream
Then after 20 seconds WHY has the oil pressure light come on – OOOHHH Sh1T no oil

Shut bike off and begin to pray – chuck the oil back in (only did 15 miles) using my 12v pump  . . . . oh not enough oil so find the Smith & Allen oil and pump oil in to level less than a litre

Start buke up PHEW bikes running like a good un and the oil pressure light is staying off and no death rattle - allowed to heat up and all pipes even temp

Well was in another cupboard yesterday and thought to myself why is the Smith & Allen oil in here . . . . . . . . . . . OH NO not again – check the oil I topped up with and is it not Fork Oil

I cannot win with this bike

oil back out and flushed - waste of a galon of oil a filter and some fork oil - Im a Pie

Lucky to get away with that Del. Still, on the up side, you wont do it again.
Another great day on the right side of the grass.😎

Fook.

Not had a close as shave as that since having a hot towel shave in Egypt.....
If you are going to run out of fuel, do it in your garage.

It's only a short walk to the kettle.

Sometime ya get lucky Del.   Your story reminded me of a time I was flushing the clutch system out.  Bits of the bike off, hose on the bleed nipple, cap off at the top & begin pumping.  I want to get it all out & replace with fresh, so I go to the bottom of the reservoir, right now to fill with new fluid.
I'm in the shed, it's night & a bit dark.  I find an almost full bottle of brake fluid, so I start topping up & pumping, topping up & pumping some more. Then the bleed hose is black???  What the hell?  Look in the reservoir & it's black?  It's bloody used engine oil that I'd poured into an empty bottle & put it back on the shelf instead of where the used oil containers go!     Pisser!   Got it all out & re-bled for quite a long time to ensure none remained.  Upshot was all fine & nothing major happened as a consequence.  Sometimes ya get lucky.
😎  Always looking for the next corner.  😎

Hope you get away with no damage Del, it seems daft to me that Smith and Allen would use the same bottle for engine and fork oil, I'll have make sure I don't do the same on my next oil change.  Many years ago the RAF used to have different oils in different shaped cans (made servicing at night in the field easier) but then the contract changed and all the cans became the same shape, there was a lot of damage caused and loads of double oil and hydraulic fluid changes for quite a while.
Keep the rubber side down.          Mick

Del, sounds like it run under NO load both times. I think it will be alright.

My mom got her car's oil changed "professionally". After a few km she stopped at a gas station when she saw the check-engine light on. The attendant was so kind and checked the oil level - no oil. Filled it up and engine was good for another 15 years.

Today I started the engine and it was not behaving - had forgotten to put one of the spark plug caps back on. Usually I try to take my time and at least double check my work. Today I was in a self-ordered hurry and payed with extra work for it

Not as bad as it could have been at least you had some kind of oil in it.
Fork oil is based on the same oil that engine oil is .
Fork oil has additives to stop it foaming up due to the way works.
I remember years ago before fork oil got so hi-tech they used engine oil mixed with automatic transmission fluid in forks as the ATF has an anti foaming agent in it.
.
My worst thing was forgetting to put the filler cap on took 8 miles for me boot and leg to be covered in oil .
Only took 1/4 ltr of oil to refill but it went everywhere.

Better than not having the sump plug in and letting the new oil drain into the oil pan with the old oil still in it.

A 'mate'told me that. Just sayin'
