November 17, France will come to a standstill.

As many of you will know, the French like to tell Politicians how they feel, and the people have had enough of the weekly fuel price rises.

On the 17th of November there will be a country wide protest, shutting cities, motorways, fuel stations/depots, anything that will attract attention will be targeted.

In my region, over 700 bikers are signed up and every farmer has been given a motorway junction to block.

I will be interested to see how much the story gets out in the big wide world.
If you are going to run out of fuel, do it in your garage.

It's only a short walk to the kettle.

Australia had one just over a week ago, but I have not heard much about the outcome.

We are going to have one in the UK ! lots of meetings, then public inquiries and a vote and if its decided to take action it will go before parliament, then the house of lords - so in around 5 years time yes we will have a day of action !! :)

Our govt are not happy about the cost of  fuel and are looking at the fuel companies profit margins.
The govt have increased the tax on the price of fuel and then we pay GST on the increase. Thats tax on a tax people.
The govt is getting close to half of the cost of fuel to put in its own greasy little pocket.
What the fuel companies are guilty of is increasing the fuel price before and during a long holiday weekend.... Bastards both of em !!
Another great day on the right side of the grass.😎

Fruit... I'm just back from the US on a business trip.  Took the better half with me and she decided she wanted to take advantage and go to Vegas (as you do 😉) for the weekend.  Hotel had a small shop in it. So in she goes looking for a packet of crisps... found them, but no price on them.  Being the frugal person she is (and not wanting to be ripped off by the exorbitant prices in Vegas), she politely asked... why are there no prices on anything in the shop?  And was equally politely told... "so that we can quickly increase prices on busy days" .... 😳.... needless to say no purchase was made!

No we didn't. All we had was a "don't buy petrol today" day.  Which is pointless as they make the same $ the day before or after anyway.

The French on the other hand are to be much admired - when they do a job like lil4399 describes, they do it properly !   :onya:  :onya:  :onya:  :onya:

It's very true, for the last 3 months there has been a sustained campaign of burning speed cameras in defiance of the recently imposed reduced speed limit of 80kpm.

A chaos that includes at least one killed and several severally injured.

French have always been good at protesting.
Not always for the overall good, the farmers did it, won, and resulted in costing the country a fair amount in grants and subsidies in the past.
Although that may change...

Some of the French price hike is a combination of rising oil prices, and part is due to encourage folk away from dirty diesels etc.

I'd be asking...

A: Where is the tax being spent? If the motorist isn't paying it, who is going without or where will it now be raised?

B: How are these protests effecting emergency vehicles. You won't be cheering them on when your house is burning down or your waiting for an ambulance.

Raising tax on petrol was preceded by reducing wealth and gains taxes. Basically a tax hike to make up the losses for that.

Blockades are continuing, emergency vehicles are being escorted through by blocadeers, there is General belief that the financial support for the elite, at the expense of the ordinary people, can no longer be accepted.

I think this is a far better way to fight the government than to just join far right organisations such as UKIP / Tommy Robinson (in the UK) or Le Penn in France.
