The First NA Outing!

Well Boiz and Gals - the 1400 had its first NA Outing to Washington and Oregon State last weekend.
I took the ferry across from Coupeville to Port Townsend and met up with my American riding buddy Wes and stayed the night in PT. We then headed down the Oregon coast (101) through Astoria to Yachats - stayed the night in the Adobe Resort on the coast.
Next day over to Dallas, Oregon to check out Wes' dune buggy racer he had crashed a month ago - needs some welding to correct a bent frame. Then back to his ranch just south of Tumwater.
Sunday we flew out to Madras in his Stationair 206 to Madras and the Erikson museum of flight - lots of great warbirds in his collection. We flew directly over Mount St, Hellens and as the photo shows the dome is growing. The other mountain is Hood.
Great 4 days and figured out riding the 1400 around NA is a very different than riding in Europe. My '08 BMW R1200GS is still a better bike for the long haul and soaks up the rubbish roads with ease compared to the 1400 so I will be looking for a '15ish Water cooled version for next year and keep the 1400 for local meets and BC adventures.
All in all a great four days!

awesome photo over the mountain.. sounds a great trip. lucky to have a mate with plane & ranch. hes going ok, did you try to talk him away from hardly.

A guy at the ferry terminal on a V-Strom was very inquisitive about the 1400 - He started by say "I've never seen that model" and so the conversation started!!..... the Hardly guy wasn't interested! My friend rides a GSW
