Right... here I go again  :P

Out and about on Sunday... and after fuelling up on the way home decided to complete the run minus earplugs (again  :whistling:).  Lo and behold... braking into first corner and I could hear a hissing noise coming from the front brakes.. defo the brakes cos it stopped as soon as I released the brake lever!  Didn't get any louder braking from higher speeds.  Checked it when I got home, discs are fine... and not overly hot, wheel spins ok, wheel and discs running true.  Had a look on the old inter web... seems that ebc hh pads are known for this?
I wondered if anyone using ebc pads has that experience?  Is it the pad / disc combination?  I still have the oem discs and wondered if a change would make any difference.

Now waiting for the abuse.... :rofl2:

I use both- rotors and HH pads from EBC. And also have this quit ticking sound while braking.
I think it's normal  :)

Arh, why does it matter if you can hear a 'hiss' from the front brakes without earplugs?  If it's braking alright & no binding of wheel or rotors, then I'd assume (as you have) it's just a normal sound produced by the action of the pads contacting the rotor. These HH pads are sintered from memory & quite hard wearing, hard pad.
I wouldn't concern myself with it, unless it's really loud & annoying, then I may opt back to oem rotors & say, GG pads.

I know, ya just want it 'right' don't you.
😎  Always looking for the next corner.  😎

I've recently fitted EBC semi-wavey discs and the noise has changed from a tick to a much faster tick but getting quieter as they get miles on them .brakes are great and can't hear a thing with my earplugs in .
only a slightly modified gsx1400

Same as Seth here. Changing from open-face to full lid I can't hear them now at all.

The same noise here with Lucas discs and EBC HH pads. I think it's normal.

Mick_J

I get the same noise from EBC disks and organic pads so I would say it's normal and nothing to worry about.
Keep the rubber side down.          Mick

Ditto  :)
The older I get the better I was
The problem with retirement is that you cant take a day off

Yeah, mine make hiss. Ear plugs fix it.

Last week I noticed a sound from my rear brake which seems like the pads are worn out and not giving too much play from the rotor, they seem almost in contact. Haven´t dissamembled anything yet. But since the pads are worn out ordered new ones. My policy regarding brakes and brake pads is almost always OEM. Almost cause rotors I sometimes don´t install OEM but always well known brands and then pads are definitly original. Same with the cars. Hate the hissing and other noises !!

All good to fit oem. One small problem. A pair gen rotors$936, pads$188. Metal Gear$380 rotors, $70.

Thanks all!  Good to know that others are experiencing the same.   Never thought that sintered pads would be so noisy!   Still... it bugs me, but will keep the pads as is to get some wear out of them this year and then switch back to OEM pads.  Probably by that time the rotors will need to be changed as well.....

ARH, will get shot down here but just my experience. this and old gsx site recod EBC pads so much. i bought for rear, were just terrible. rode into work, mate even said whats the noise. 300ks later i tossed them in the bin. they wrecked my rear rotor, noisy and didnt even stop. yes, were genuine. 80 bucks worth. i fitted metal gear rotor and pads, around 180 bucks. perfect.

Hooli

EBC are shite, they don't stop, don't last and don't fit hence the rattle everyone gets.. The dirt cheap £14 a side Kyotos from Wemoto are a huge improvement in everyway.

gsxbarmy

My personal preference on my K7 were the SBS Excel pads, never had an issue with them and wore well
Nothing to do.............all day to do it....I love retirement
