The older I get the better I was
The problem with retirement is that you cant take a day off

Hooli

Yesterday I collected the keis heated jacket I bought on Thurs. Tried it today as I had to go into work.

Wow is all I can say. The heat is so even I just felt warm, with the heated trousers too it was great. I had the vest before but the jacket is a lot better.

@Irish in Oz

That Bandit of yours is not going to handle well with those wheels and tyres  :rofl2:

Oh yes it will because I'm putting the wire wheels on it, and I know they are better because I have smashed a few mag wheels but not a wire.

You want to ease up on the pies Jeff if you're busting the mag wheels.  :stir: :happy1:

Was busting them 10 years ago Col. Those tyres and wheels will do the Bandit or 14 today as I'm now retired.

Finally pulled the trigger on a basic Dremel with extension cable and a small polishing kit. Also bought some paint stripper and thinners as well as some Loctite 243 for the stator bolts (?). Plan to polish my new brand new side covers after stripping off the lacquer and maybe start to work on the fiddly areas of the forks as well. Aiming for chrome like polish.

Wasn't sure if I was going to use paint stripper or rub the clear paint off with a scourer and thinners. Probably go for the paint stripper to make sure I get it all off. Thinners will come in handy for other things I'm sure.

What happened to doing all the polishing by hand? I seem to remember this as your reply a month ago when I suggested you use a Dremel.

"Never ever heard of a dremel and what are these buffs of which you speak? One slip with a dremel and the part is ruined. I know this from experience so I hand sand and polish everything including the stuff I polish for a living. But thanks. Sarcasm is appreciated in the spirit in which I chose to receive it."

BTW, just use paint stripper although the shit you get these days is pretty useless.

I was being sarcastic. Thought that would've come through. I did a lot of it by hand on the old crusty ones and they came up ok looking from 100 yards away. I found this on special and bought the polishing kit second hand off gumtree for $18. Not sure how long the pads will last but it's a start.

I'll still do the majority of the flat open surfaces by hand as usual like I do in my work but the bolt alcoves and mating surfaces deserve a good shine too so given this was so cheap I thought of your spear and duck and said "fuckit". I used to have a full billion piece kit Dremel set but lost it in the great financial fire of 2012 like everything else I owned so am enjoying the rebuild on my tool chest this time around. Here's a lesson for you younguns- be very careful who you trust with your finances! Or better still, never trust people with only two legs.

I considered just sanding off the lacquer (is that what Suzuki uses?) but want to damage the new ones as least as possible before I start polishing. I will go over them with 2,000 and 3,000 before polishing (like I do the headlights) and will then use my compounds to get it close but will finish with machines autisol when they're almost there for the final chrome look. I'll make a new post in the polishing section when done.

Now all I have to do is figure how to clean my block before painting it with BBQ black but I digress.

I try to take one day at a time, however sometimes several days catch up with me at once.

Also, I was referring to grinding all the junk and corrosion off the original corroded set while still on the bike which would have been awkward and dangerous (to the surface). Now that I've bought a brand new set I'll be using this tool just to rotate some compound into the nooks and crannies. Rotating abrasive discs won't go anywhere near them the new ones - just the soft polishing pads. Might try some of the rotating disc brushes to get into the fork nooks though as there's nothing I can do about those areas because I ain't taking the front tubes off quite yet.

Plus, I saw someone using the cutting disc to snip off some of the rear mudguard so I'm thinking of trimming a bit (just a bit) off the back and the dremel will be useful for that and maybe a few other projects too.

Just remember that one slip of a dremel and the part is ruined.
If you look like your passport photo then you're too sick to travel.

Very excited today.....have ordered a clutch switch.$32 nz rupees.
Explained my ongoing issues with bike running rough to an experienced Soozooki mechanic. He said l know what it is. Sidestand switch is on/off switch, clutch switch is an " l'm going to be started switch" and it also tells the ecu to go into start mode....rich mixture !!
Should be here on Tuesday  :boogie:
Another great day on the right side of the grass.😎

If you are on Facebook have a look for a guy in the UK called Harry Overton that owns his own company called Briteworx. He is an absolute wizard when it comes to restoring and polishing bike and car parts. His work beggars belief at times with the results he gets.

Just one before and after pic says it all!
