Probably 5-7c Chris so not real cold. Heated grips help too.
Spoke to my brother yesterday, said it was 38c where he lives in UK recently.
Hooli, you will be pleased you invested in arseless chaps  :hat:
Another great day on the right side of the grass.😎

Coming from a bloke who lives where the best selling clothing is Velcro gloves, I'm not even responding to that!

Well, I brought a new battery, :clapping:  :onya:  a Motobatt Pro Lithium MLX16-UHD.  I wanted a SSB LH14-BS and have been looking and waiting for weeks for 1, contacted the supplier as to the arrival date of the new shipment only to be told there isn't any arrival date for these into NZ at the moment.  Bugger, so off I go looking for alternatives, that are available.
Found this one, it's got more cca than the SSB one (480cca vs 420cca) but it has 600ca and because I don't get the cold -18C, the rocket will be spinning over like a turbine! Now the wait for delivery, it's coming from Hamilton, so it'll be a week or so with the ferries being out at the moment with rough weather.

you'll notice the ~4kg weight saving on the 3t Rocket IlI im sure.  :P
I try to take one day at a time, however sometimes several days catch up with me at once.

KiwiCol

100% didn't buy it for weight saving, I wanted the extra grunt of a LFP battery & 480cca's does beat the OE 280cca by lots.

Col, no snow here, it was a cracker day, blue skies but cool SW wind. I even took the rocket out for a run around & changed the mount position of the quadlock to more central & above the dash.  I rang folk in CHC and they were getting snow and damn cold still at 12.00 though.

I reckon the Rocketship will love those extra currents / currants when starting,  she'll turn over just by looking at the starter switch.  My SSB can sit for weeks in the shed and she fires up first press everytime.

KiwiCol

Agreed Eric.  The extra CCA's will spin her over with ease.  It's amazing Triumph put in a 280cca battery to start a 2.5L engine, you'd never see that in a car. While the 280cca AGM battery does the job, because it's a 3 cylinder and it has decompression at start up, it's basically right at the maximum capacity of that battery, it's working very hard to do the job.
If you get a non start issue you don't get many tries before it's too low to power the electronics and injectors etc while still turning the crank. While it may sound like it's turning over fast enough, the power will have dropped below 10.5v and the ecu decides there's not enough to go round so it won't fire the injectors.

So, this battery is 3 years old, it's the OE battery and while it lives on a tender when not being ridden, I have noticed twice it didn't start first push of the button. It starts 2nd push & there's reasons it does that, but it's a warning sign that the battery is getting tired after having to crank over a 2½L engine for 3 years.

Yes I could of sourced another OE spec battery and got another 3 years out of it, but getting the LFP battery it's basically set for life now, well, rest of my life anyway.

For those like me asking what LFP means 🙄

LiFePo is another acronym typically used for these.

Not the same as Lithium Ion, which have more power per cell, but LiFePo are more stable and long lived.  The ones that get in the news by catching fire are the Li Ion type,  thermal runaway its called.

Col should get 10years out of his new LiFePo battery if looked after.  Doubt it needs a tender, these can actuslly harm modern batteries, better to have them drain down a bit and give them a proper charge than a float or surface charge via a trickle charger in my view.

Have a read on charging Col. Diff opinions, some say 90-95%, Tesla say 100% every week.My Diavel I fitted one, never ever charged it, bought lifepo charger but never used it. It sat 3 months one time and just started easily.SSB Lifepo for 14 is around $200, will get if my SSB lead acid ever dies, doesn't seem to want to🤷🏼
