4 pot V 6 pot

Fitted the 4 pot calipers and after quite a lengthy bleed procedure they are up and running.
I compared the size of the original 6 pot pads to the new 4 pot pads and as you can see in the 1st photo there is quite a difference in size!
Before fitment this worried me that I may be making the wrong move!!

Impressions:

Firstly let me say that my original 6 pot calipers were fine with NO sticking pistons or any other issues (apart from the severe rattle of the EBC replacement pads). So my impressions are not comparing newly refurbed calipers with a knackered part seized calipers !

Initially I didn't go mad but bedded the new pads (Original Suzuki) in progressively over a 60 mile trip.
The new set up is "different in feel". There is plenty of bite when needed. If I am pushed then I would say yes they offer a better braking performance over the standard.
I suspect I need to re bleed the system as the lever feels on the squidgy side.
Even with this squidgy lever the brakes give great confidence.
When I got home I took out the pads on one side and they are still not fully bedded in. I would say they are 70% so in theory they should be even better before too long.

Overall, recommended.

Thanks. It's great having a comparison like that, as opposed to the usual "my 6 pots were stuffed and the new 4 pots are great".  More balanced.

I have 4 pots on mine and like 'em, but I only replaced them because the 6's needed some attention....

One thing a smaller pad means is you can overheat them easier, not an issue with how most people ride but might show up if you do track days & hammer down the Alps regularly. I'd expect the pads to wear out quicker too, so it'll be interesting to see if you notice that.

One or my friends owns 2 SV1000's..
One he uses for Track days with the same calipers I have fitted to my 14..
I jokingly suggested we swap my 6 pots for his 4 pots..
He told me where to go !

Plus Mr Hooli as you hinted... Track days are the last thing on my mind !

I believe SV1000s are a lot lighter than a 14? It might not be an issue, I don't know how close to their limits the pads get in the normal calipers. But to get the same amount of braking out of smaller pads does mean the pads will be hotter.

I'm just being nosey into the mechanics of it, I'm happy with 6-pots on mine so no intention of changing.
