Mot done and ready to go. But first thing oil and filter. As I used to get my oil from Redcar motorcycles and they are now shut my question is, If I change to castrol oil which is at halfords does it matter about the bit of oil that is left in the engine and would you use there filters, I think they are champion. Thanks nick.
PS does any one know what happened to Redcar motorcycles.

Should be fine if it's the same spec.

I've used halfords own semi-synth & their champion filters (COF038 from memory) for over 70k in my 14.

It will make no difference Nick, try Halfords own oil (it's Comma oil I believe) it's cheaper than Castrol and works perfectly.
Keep the rubber side down.          Mick

Halfords Oil is made by Comma.

It went in my DL650 for 50k miles.
My Varadero is running strong after 25k
The wife's GSX14 will be having it's oil and filter changed in the morning before our camping trip on Sunday.
And the best bits:
5 ltrs intead of 4 with castrol, Silkolene ect
Trade card gets it for £23 not £36  :boogie:

Using car oil or something with friction Reduction additives may damage the engine/clutch, but putting the wrong grade (within reason) wont make a much difference.
What WILL kill an engine is not changing the oil.

Champion filters are OK. But when I worked in a dealer we cut open a few old filters.
Suzuki and Honda filters were made of superior materials, Yam weren't too bad. Kawasaki's ones came in with the Chinese junk.
Hi-flo and Champion are ok for budget filter.

Cheers for that
I've used Halfords oil in my gsx1400's for years with out any issues.
I thought it was made by silkolene but happy to be corrected.
It's the correct grade and not made from recycled old oil so I'll continue to use it .

Nearly 120k (miles) & at least half of that done on halfrauds oil with champion filters, it's better than anything I've got from a proper bike shop so I'll keep using it.
