What would you have done...?

From the outset - I'm just gauging opinion lightheartedly...

I'm the most easy going person - you could ever meet. Sadly I hate my neighbour with a vengeance. Years ago. He had a pop at missus Brush. And I needed to get hold of him and sort it. Job done. Goes nowhere near her now.

We do not talk ever. But, he has an annoying habit of spying on me whilst I'm in the man cave. Yesterday I just lost it. At the end of his garden is a little shed - and along side this he has a tiny strip of land. He just peers into my garage looking at all my stuff. Car/bike/tools girly calendars you name it. I even moved the calendars alongside one wall so he could get an unrestricted view.

Twice I caught him yesterday. Warm day. I had to close one door (double garage). There is he again. BOOM. He got Both barrels. Mrs Brush looking on from the conservatory shaking her head and putting her hands over her eyes. With a smile on her face may I add.

My garage in not overlooked by anyone. Adjoining a field at the back and his property to the left. But, I'm shit hot about security with a 14 sleeping in there. I cannot block this 'view' off as it's owned (jointly) on one side and the rest is his.

Now this weekend. Mrs Brush has asked granddaughter down. Nearly 4. She agree's if she see's him spying on her. it will be an even bigger mouthful off her.

C'mon boys and girls. Am I in the right or wrong... should I don my lime green mankini next time I'm spannering on the 14? I am going to film him though. Camera and video - should anything happen theft wise.

Best wishes,

BB.

As they say in your neck of the woods "there's nowt as queer as folk".  Just ignore him unless something goes missing or he starts looking at the wife/kids.  If you strike first he will have the law on his side, I know it's easy to just batter him but then you stand a chance of a free holiday (with on suite, sky, mobile phone, drugs, three hot meals and central heating) but then he is at your home without you being there to keep watch.  Difficult situation, film the fucker and wear your mankini.
Keep the rubber side down.          Mick

Maybe you should film yourself spannering in the lime green mankini...... and post the movie to him..

Ive been where you are fella - terrible neighbours who tried everything to piss me off to the point I would go off on one - Don't let them get to you, its what there after - you'll be the one to get in bother and they will say they did nothing to provoke you

Get plenty of cameras and visible security - don't forget the signs advising so. I ended up just ignoring them and if I was about to loose it I just laughed at them or smiled and politely waved, Nothing worse than seeing someone not getting a rise out of you

Document every time he is watching you and again try to get some of this on a camera he may not notice  also try to make sure all your cameras are shooting your property (with maybe the exception of one)

Dont let the fekkers get to you mate its what gets them off - IGNORE HIM

Take the calendar down & put up a big sign "Get a Fecken Life! Ya looser"   Your man cave & you can have whatever you like in there.
😎  Always looking for the next corner.  😎

The missus reckons because he's so nosey, go and get him and show him the man cave. Then say "there you go, now you dont have to spy on me any more.......do you."
Then he knows you have his cards marked.

Perhaps have a shot gun laying on your workbench. (last bit was my idea)  :hat:

As others have said by adjusting his attitude with force will only get you in the shit.
Another great day on the right side of the grass.😎

Simple answer Basil.... have a word with Taniwha... he has some 'dubious' relatives who could take care of that for you  :happy1:

Sorry bud... shouldn't make light of what must be a frustrating situation... honestly spoken I'd have lost the plot with the guy as well....

Smashing idea, However I doubt any of them would be able to get passports and visas.

I reckon Kiwi and Mrs Fruits idea is a neat, passive aggressive, low friction, solution. THEN if he steps out of line again, call the boys.

I know exactly how you feel bud and unfortunatly my fuse used to be very short ..... when i was still in wales we had neigbours that would go out of there way to wind me up !
came home from work one evening to them having a birthday party and were playing music so loud that the walls of the adjoining wall was vibrating , and to top it of they had set up big amps in the garden facing the fence between us and were pearing over and laughing at the misses who was in the kitchen trying to make tea for me and the kids .
So i was civil at first and asked them to turn it down a bit and that i wasn't after them to stop but just to turn it down to a reasonable level to which they did turn it down so i said cheers and went in , as soon as i was out of sight it was turned up full blast ( you would have thought  glastonbury was in the back garden) that was it !!!!! im gone !!!  pick up the wheelie bin chucked it through the panel fence then grabbed the fence post and smashed shit out of his amps , went in to the house and smashed shit out of the stereo and then through the post back in to the garden through his kitchen window while all his so called hard mates stood by and watched !
Long story short they rang the plod who came round to arrest me for trespass and criminal damage and endded up arresting him for abuse and assaulting a police officer and giving me a formal caution and pay for the repairs to the fence .
I was bloody lucky and have tried to air on the side of caution since if possible !!!
i intend to live for ever or die trying !!

I know this is going against the thread of the discussion somewhat, but have you thought about talking to him about it?

You haven't spoken to your neighbour for years but that doesn't mean you can never speak again. If he was presented with a very calm and factual explanation of why his behaviour is unacceptable he might find it hard to continue in that way.

Just present him with dates, times, what he did and how it makes you uncomfortable. See what happens.

It is very difficult to stay emotionally detached when it's happening to you, but usually in a conflict situation the person who isn't angry has the advantage. Worth a try maybe.

I have the same issue so built a 12 foot fence! The District came around as the f***wit complained. The inspection's recommendation as "no further action required"!! The reason...... he has an above ground pool and a shed that are inside the property line limit of 5 feet. This pissed him off even more and then complained to me about a protected fir tree over hanging his property and the needles fall into his pool. Shame eh! I now do anything I can to piss him off!!! :stir: I spent $900 for a arborist to trim and check the three big trees at the rear after which he shouted at my wife "What is this! - I assumed you were taking them down. I'm going to make a complaint to the District" to whit my missus shouted back "Go ahead they are protected". That was 9 years ago and they are still standing as anyone who touches them is in for a huge fine, including me even though they are on my property.

You can't choose your neighbours nor family!!!
