Very quick question..

My mate has a magnetic Oxford 30L tank bag he swears by..

What are your views..

I don't want a carrier / top box

What are my options (For the Scottish trip)?

Are pillion bags a better bet than Tank bags ??

S

Mister Fishfinger

Can't comment on the tank bag, but I've just bought a Kriega US30 tail pack. Not cheap, but the quality is top notch. I'm off on a trip next week with it, so I'll let you know how it goes.

Matter of taste. I like to use top box(self made Rickman copy, 34 years old), + tank bag and/or pillions( If needed).
My wife wants to use rucksack + tank bag, never boxes. Both ways are working.
Enough money and you need only wallet

Magnetic tank bags can come lose on unfaired bikes at motorway speeds and in cross winds.
Is put a set of throw overs I've the bake seat also keeps the extra weight low down on the bike.
only a slightly modified gsx1400
oh and a standard one too

Ive used a magnetic Tank bag in the past and it was realy good had it years and it also came with straps for none steel tanks , i used it on 5 or 6 of my bikes from a vfr to my other tiger and never had any problems .... i just found it less hassle than throw overs  when i was riding on my own and sometimes i used to strap it on the pillion seat .
i intend to live for ever or die trying !!

The one my neighbour has is a 30 litre Oxford one that can become a rucksack.
his has 6 strong magnets (3 each side)..
In his case he has been touring Europe with it, as well as panniers and top box.
I do like the idea of strapping to the back seat...

Thanks for your comments..
I have plenty of time to decide..
I even considered posting my stuff to the hotel..!!

I have a Givi Tanklock tankbag. Its great.
Another great day on the right side of the grass.😎

I think I'd find 30L for a tank bag is too big. IMO 15 litre is plenty, and used for stuff needed during the day, then I have a Kreiga US20/10 combination tail pack for the overnight bits and bobbins.

I use a hold all type bag same size as walk on luggage two black bin bags one each way  to stop it getting wet and then bungie cords criss crossed never lost one yet stuffs always dry weights where ya want  on the pillion seat behind ya use the pull outs and the shocker bungs ideal for a weekend away on ya own

I like magnetic tank bags. I use mine for work or overnight runs, or to tour along with my top box. Mines easy on and off, takes my maps etc, and takes my phone in Winter. I don't put my phone in it in an Aussie summer as it cooks and shuts down.

Only thing different for me is my tank is rough as guts, so the tank bag gets thrown on and off. I know some folk who have "nice bikes" are a bit more paranoid and careful than me.  Mine has a strap that go's around the headstock and clips on / off, but I can't remember the last time I used the strap, if it stays in place on my Busa then my 14 certainly won't move it.

Yeah. Very happy using my magnetic tank bag.

I had no interest in ever owning a top box, had one on a step through that came my way 20 years back and never wanted to own another.

The one I have for my 14 was thrown in as part of the deal and fitted to give my paranoid non-riding wife a bit more peace of mind as a new pillion.

I've actually used it a few times on my own. The box snaps on, and comes off with the turn of a key and gets carried into hotels and motels. The rack left on the bike isn't huge and 3 half turns with a coin removes about half of it if I want it even smaller.

I'm not off to buy hard luggage for my other bikes but this box is quite useful and I can see why some folk like them. Just personal taste.

I have all the options, tank bag as well. I have even been known to carry others luggage.
