Hi all I had a friend over to look at my 1400 after starting it my mate said what's that ticking noise from what appears to be around the top of the engine
My 1400 is a 2002 model with 12'000 miles on the clock
Any thoughts before I contact the stealer

Still got pairs? they've got little flappy things in (been years since I saw any so very technical) I suspect they'll tick as they work too.

Mine ticks, has done for the last 10 years, I was told it was the injectors firing.

Mine has a top end tick.
A nasty "CLUNCK" going into gear.
A loud whine in 3rd gear.

An unbaffled Yoshimura Cyclone hides most of it...  :whistling:

Good call Tony. I have clunk into 1st which also whines. I wear ear plugs and can makes a nice semi loud noise. All good.

I know this is not the original topic, but mine whines in first gear (they all do that sir) and makes a clunk when it engages first from neutral. Strangely though, when I put it into first with a cold engine it's dead quiet. Wait till it warms up and it sounds like dropping an anvil into a skip.

Nothing to worry about though.

Hooli

1st gear whines because it's straight cut gears to take a greater load, 2nd onwards are helical to be quiet.

Don't know about the 14's but many years ago I had a Gpz 1100 and that had a ticking noise at idle, it was the injectors under no load, sounded a bit like a cam chain problem back then, but as soon as the engine was loaded/given a few revs, no noise, it was just down to intake vacuum, memory fading these days... but it was still very quick...in a straight line...
