I just found out this morning that a mate, Peter, who I knew from the Land Rover Club has died.

He was around my age (late forties), and was as far as everyone knew, in the best of health.
They don't know what killed him yet (natural causes of some sort) - will have to do a post-mortem to see if it was a heart attack or something.

He only just posted a picture a few weeks back on FB of my Land Rover, made me remember the good times we'd all shared.  I hadn't caught up with him for a while (in person) and last time I did we said the usual "Hey we'll have to get together for a beer soon."  Won't happen now, but I'll have a beer for him tonight in contemplation.

This has hit me a bit harder than I'd expected. Far too bloody young. Leaves a wife and son (Angus must be around 18 by now I reckon) It was Angus who found him.

Another fucking funeral to go to. I hate funerals.

Sorry fellow forum-ites for this ramble. I'm not looking for sympathy - just needed to 'unload'.

The moral of the story I suppose is to get out there and enjoy life while you can !

Sorry to hear that Vlad. Yeah , enjoy now, no use planning for later.

It does make you realise that you just don't know what's around the corner.
Plan for retirement, but make the most of everyday while you still have your health.

Sorry to hear about Peter, Mike and my sympathies go out to his family.

Indeed you never know what is around the corner or what may happen but when it does there are always regrets that you didnt this or you didnt that. Unfortunately that will nearly always be the case, but i'd say remember the good times and be happy that you shared those.

Nothing to do.............all day to do it....I love retirement

Sad news indeed buddy my sympathies go out you his family and friends .
times like these make you stop and think about your own life and how you need to live it while you can as none if us know what's around the corner .
The landrover folk here gave stickers on their cars saying
"One life live it"

Indeed, sympathies to his family & you Mike. It's times like this that make us reflect on our own lives & unfortunately, as we age, there are more of these times coming to each of us.
Live & love life, share yourself with family & friends.  We can't change the past, but we can shape our own future.  Get out there & do it while you can.

The older I get the better I was
The problem with retirement is that you cant take a day off

I am sorry for your loss Mike.

Just talked to my buddy about this topic last night over a couple beers. There were 8 obituaries in our local paper of guys our age (56 to 63). Our neighbor died 3 months into retirement. Another neighbor, a couple years younger than us, just got a spot in the nursing home after suffering several strokes.

I figure that I have another 30 years if lucky. If not, it can be over today. I consider everyday is my birthday. Time to discover this world (again). As the weather is nice I am going to do this on the bike. 21°, sunshine and everything in nature showing a new boost of life this should be a nice birthday.

in my 57th year, i got diabetes, hemochromatosis and prostate cancer. man does that rock your world. 5 yrs later, here i am. definately not being a hero at all, just dealt with it. im all clear with it all, just a bit of maintenance needed. i look forward to my 14 being my friend for at least another 20 yrs. my life has changed, sure has, i think im better for the bad stuff. my wife did same 20 yrs ago, bad cancer, shes still here to annoy me. live your dreams now blokes. ohlins are what you want, just order them.

Mister Fishfinger

Sorry to hear about your friend. We are getting to that age.

I didn't have a bike for many years while my kids were growing up, partly because of the risk but also because finances were a lot tighter then. Now they are adults and I have more disposable income I choose to rebuild and ride old bikes because it gives me a lot of pleasure.

Obviously I'd like to stick around as long as possible so I ride very carefully and I don't take chances with maintenance or equipment (I also try to cut down on pies and beer, but that's a different story), but still I feel I have to get out there while I am still capable. It's all about making the most of the time you have left because you never know how much you will get.

Proteous

We all say those dreaded words "we'll have to go for a beer" and never find the time.. I think we all need to start making time for each other, im sick of loosing people who i should have spent more time with.
Sorry for your loss bro.
So if i do stuff all all day and noone sees me do it.. Am i still a lazy git?

Beer & Pies are two of lifes pleasures.   No point living longer if you can't enjoy your pleasures when you feel like it.    Get 'em down ya!!
