Clean Air Directive France - Read & Apply if Touring In France

I get a newsletter from MCI every now and then and this morning ive got info on the Clean Air thing in France.  Certain Cities you HAVE to apply and display a sticker - car or Bike..  list of Cities / towns included as well as how to apply.  Spend a few quid - avoid on the spot fine...

You will probably have seen that the French government (bless them) have launched a scheme for all cars and motorcycles driving in many cities and some regions (https://www.crit-air.fr/en/information-about-the-critair-vignette/french-environmental-zones-zcr/french-environmental-zones.html?utm_source=MCi+Tours+Newsletter+April+2018&utm_campaign=MCi+February+Newsletter&utm_medium=email ) to confess to their dirty sins.  This includes British registered vehicles, so your car or motorcycle needs to display an emissions sticker which relates to the age and cleanliness of your vehicle.

If your vehicle does not display the sticker you could face an on the spot fine.  The anti-pollution sticker only costs €3.11 plus the cost of postage, and can be ordered on-line from the official Crit'Air website. https://www.certificat-air.gouv.fr/en/?utm_source=MCi+Tours+Newsletter+April+2018&utm_campaign=MCi+February+Newsletter&utm_medium=email   Given the low cost it seems sensible to acquire one of these just in case you stray into one of these zones, and I have just bought on myself.

At the moment this costs the same no matter what the age or fuel consumption of your vehicle, although interestingly if your vehicle is old enough it does NOT need one.

I wasn't planning on going to France in the near future and now won't be bothering them ever .You'll soon need a trailer to take all the crap they want you to have with you .

Just got mine for when I travel down to Switzerland in a few weeks - only costs pence so a bit of a no brainer. Dead easy to apply, and comes through real quick

You also need EU approved gloves now as well Stoli....(EU tag must still be affixed)

I'm going on a tour with a group to Spain and France at the end of June. Most of the group have applied for the Permit and they have been accepted.

However, one rider has tried to register his Motor Guzzi California registered in 1997 and it will not accept his application. He found some reference noting bikes pre 1972 are exempt, but that doesn't cover the years in between. Confusing.

Has anyone had a similar problem and managed to resolve it?

Any advice appreciated.

Unless you are going through or into the cities where Crit-Air is a requirement - then in all honesty I wouldn't bother as it's not going to change in the next couple of weeks.

Basically the cities with Crit-Air are (at present (June 2018)):
- Paris
- Lyon
- Grenoble
- Lille
- Strasbourg
- Toulouse
- Chambery
- Marseille

I say that as I've never been anywhere in frogshire that the frogs were grumpy arses, never had that issue with any other country in europe.

I've found some people to be pretty rude in Paris, but everywhere else I've been in France the people have been generally great, no problems at all. They even tolerate my terrible attempts at speaking their language, before switching to English and digging me out of a hole.

To be honest you can find grumpy people anywhere.

I have to say that the Ducati dealership in Reims were brilliant on my recent trip to Switzerland - guy who came with us on a Multistrada needed a new rear tyre due to a puncture near the wall - rang them up late on a Saturday and they stayed open for us until we got there (past their normal closing time), changed his rear tyre and checked the rest of the bike over - and didn't charge a penny extra.

The French treat people the way they are treated, your reference to them as frogs shows how you see them and don't like them giving it you back.
