games are on just south of where i live. just watched opening celerbration. supposed to be about australia/queensland. sorry fellas, very 2nd rate. ashamed how bad. i could say lots more but i wont. events will be awesome. pity about the politics.

Snapey

It's exciting television watching people walk in to a stadium .... sitting at a computer isn't much better.

I really need to get a life.
If you look like your passport photo then you're too sick to travel.

Sweaty

I know exactly what you mean Grog. Another major event turned in to a political statement that never ended.👎
Acknowledge the past, but that was over the top, and I only watched 20mins.

Red Biker

I reckon you are good for a podium finish Snapey!

@grog the budget will be a fraction of the Olympics I guess but On the plus side the Aussies May get a couple of medals  :stir:
Many a Donkey has lost its hoof on the rocky road, don't be that Donkey!

Notty

I peaked too soon to go to the games - about 55 years ago sadly when I was a finely honed athlete- with all my training as a young man I could drink 10 pints a night but now 3 and off to the toilet every 5 minutes so couldn't stay on the field long enough  :)
The older I get the better I was
The problem with retirement is that you cant take a day off

As the UK splits into it's parts for this none of the home nations will top any medal tables.
Hopefully some good clean sports to come and they don't catch lots of drug cheats from any nation taking part .
only a slightly modified gsx1400
oh and a standard one too

10 Pints (Real 600ml pints) is the same a 6 Jugs.  I used to (as a younger fella) do 6 jugs of an evening myself, still regularly do 5, but trying to scale it back to 2 or 3, about 4-5 pints.  It's not because of headaches, just the waistline.

Wait till Barmy gets here, we'll do a 6 jug night!  Get into training now Dave . . .
😎  Always looking for the next corner.  😎

Well, this happened:

QuoteTHE Commonwealth Games haven't even started yet, but there has already been an embarrassing blunder in the official program.

The Courier-MailApril 4, 2018

ENGLAND is listed as an African nation in the official Gold Coast Commonwealth Games program in an embarrassing blunder ahead of tonight's opening ceremony.

Its capital is not London but Banjul, according to the glossy 130-page program which contains an official welcome from the Queen.

The nation that gave us the entire Commonwealth, not to mention the Games, is also listed as having over two million citizens — a far cry from its actual population of more than 66.5 million people.

And the program says England's first Commonwealth Games were in 1970, when in fact it was 1930.

The glaring errors have been revealed in the $10 program which includes welcome messages from dignitaries including Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull, Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk, Gold Coast Mayor Tom Tate and Commonwealth Games Federation president Louise Martin.

The program includes profiles on the 71 Commonwealth Games nations.

Publishers the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games Corporation (GOLDOC) appear to have mixed up England's profile with that of Gambia, a tiny African nation which only rejoined the Commonwealth a few weeks before the Coast Games.

Its capital is Banjul and it has a population of 2,051,363 people.

"It's a pretty embarrassing clanger," a Games volunteer who discovered the gaffe told News Corp.

"This is the official program that thousands of people will buy as a keepsake and the details on the country that created the Commonwealth are wrong.

"If GOLDOC knew about the mistake, it must have been too late or too expensive to reprint the magazine."

Comment was being sought from GOLDOC

Really switched on these organisers. Makes me proud to be Queenslander. What about the 2000 people they forgot to pick up on shuttle bus last night. $380 tickets. Organiser boss said no, that didnt happen.

KiwiCol

Bloody hell!   Hope they get a refund at least!  Mind you, if it didn't happen, there's nothing to refund.
