FYI, anyone wanting to 'liven up' their 14 without spending a lot, give a 17 tooth front serious consideration.
My K6 Black was no slug (not even with me on it) but the new K6 Blue I've got has a 17 tooth front & she's way more eager to get going. Yeah, your revs are going to be higher for a given speed, but you get there much quicker - if that's important at times.

Had her at 5k in 3rd this avo, (doing 100kph), then opened it right up! Man, she hit 150 in about 2 lamp posts! & wasn't even near the redline.  Was in a 80kph (rural) zone, so backed off, and lived to fight another day.

Col, next change was thinking going 19t front. Snapey loves his. i have no need for quicker acceleration, love low revs at touring speeds.i can see what you mean but just a lower gear , same effect.

In Switzerland it is mandatory that you would be thrown into jail for going 140 in an 80 zone outside city limits. No ifs and buts about it (only if is "not" getting caught). And your bike would be confiscated for doing less than that.

Better of being a rapist or pedophile as you have a good chance getting off with parole.

Switched from a 17 back to the standard 18 during my rebuild. I like the idea of the rubber cushioning on the OE sprocket to quieten the running gear. Quicker acceleration isn't really a priority with my riding style nowadays anyway, those days are gone and it's not like the 14 struggles to overtake . I like the slightly lower revs at cruising speed.

Personal preference though I suppose

Agreed  Col, I did mine last year and have an advancer to fit this year.
It's all about the speed off the mark for me 👍

Best we don't live in Switzerland then, or Norway.   Gotta remember NZ is more 'empty' than Europe / UK.  We've only got 4.5 million living in a space the size of UK.   There'd be more than that lives in Manchester wouldn't there?

Back on point... just use 2nd gear (with 18 tooth) instead of 3rd gear with 17 teeth. Going through the work of using gearcommander.com is not necessary to prove as buttmeter is sufficient to prove the point imo.

Advancer (and other mods in conjunction with it!) are a good step imo.

This sprocket was on there when I got it, I've also got the 18T front as well.  Thought I'd take it off & put the 18 back on, but I'm just sussing out the 17 first.
I was just saying the difference a 17 makes to the getup & go. An inexpensive mod for a quicker acceleration.

Col, you got the direct comparison situation.  Can't beat that :onya:
