I just had a look at vmx bottle, they actually call it manual trans oil. Never took notice b4. But yes, no more smell. Wish all the old diffs etc had it back when i was fixing them. Hated the stinky hands.

Hi T 24.

How do you find out the riveted pin size for various chains?

This would be info I'd find particularly useful.

I've used EK, RK and DID chains and am always a little nervous that I haven't riveted enough...

And riveting too much creates an instant tight spot...

Thanks.
I found that measurement from D.I.D web sites few years ago. There was a chart to all D.I.D chains.
Then I wrote it down to my service book..

That's non-stinky castrol VMX 80W gear oil? I am glad when my bottle of STINKY gear oil is empty.

I use a 140W gear oil that is like Golden Syrup and it NEVER flings a spec off.
Seriously even after a high speed run there isnt a trace of it on my rear wheel !

Sweaty

Same as me Speedy. 85-140W gear oil is great.

Andre

Never flinging a spec off would be worth some stink :onya:

no stink is my choice, one or two wipe offs, good for 1000k plus. can understand the thicker is better but after building hundreds of gearboxes and diffs, hate that smell. when i first started using gear oil on chain, which btw is far superiour to chain lube, pulled up at lights, that old familiar smell. thats why i searched out vmx. thicker might not fling, might stick better, might even work better, but guess what, i dont care. i just dont care. no smell.

It alarms me the prices you guys in Oz have to pay for tyres, chains etc.
I always thought the UK was a "Rip off" but it seems you have it even tougher.

I can get a DID chain and sprocket kit from Ebay for £89.92 delivered..Equating to approx $154 Aus.

We do pay a premium Froudy.
Cheapest price for the zvm-x chain only locally was $280 & that's not delivered

I wonder if it would be cheaper, even with shipping costs for you to order from the UK?

With your history you have a very good reason to get the non-stink version.
