Left handed riders

Righto guys, bit of a discussion going on here about left handed people & riding bikes & if it's too hard to ride a 'normal' control bike being a leftie.


So, who's a leftie & any issues you have riding?

I've never heard any lefties struggling like that.... but I do recall jumping on a an old triumph tiger and thinking wtf... gear change is on the wrong side!  Was similar to driving left/right hand drive cars... pain at the start but you soon get used to it.

I write with my left hand, pretty much everything else I can do with the right too.

No major issues for me.

Blubber there is a word for people like you......
My Son is just the same. He writes with his left (but can with his right too)
But other things he does with his right.. We are Archers and he shoots right handed.
But if you throw something at him he is happy to catch with either hand..

The word is ambidextrous....

That could be the big word is was looking for.

Slight preference for the left when spannering especially when it's "about to break" tight

I'm a leftie and can't say I've ever had any issues to be honest. I guess it's just because it's the way it is, so you have to get used to it.  I'd be interested to hear if others have problems. Maybe I'm special too like Blubber.

Hey!  All 14 riders are special... and Barmy too of course

I'm a lefty, used to play ice hockey as a youth, was considered to be right handed, as I am at cricket etc.
I remember reading a hockey manual from Canada which said you should have your strongest hand at the top of the stick, in my case the left with the other working mostly as a pivot, all the control came from the top hand.
Makes a kind of sense I guess.

Ambidextrous here, do most things with both hands including writing which is a doctors scrawl left or right , at school I was forced to write with my right hand which probably accounts for the scrawl, sports are left or right what ever feels ok for me, when spannering I just swap hands with the tools instead of moving my bod

it must be very handy  to use  both hands when you can for diffrent jobs

I too am a left-hooker, no probs at all with bikes etc. BUT as a leftie, my biggest problem is with hand-held power-tools, the 'hold' button is out of the way for you 'righties' but us poor lefties often as not, depress this when drilling for example, & then when the trigger is released, the bloody thing is still running, this can be a tad 'interesting' to say the least, still catches me out that one!!

Not too sure about 'lefties' but as an apprentice in early 70's, I worked in a bike repair shop part time. Had a bloke come in P----d off as his bike had been stolen. An old even then 650 Matchless. When he got the bike back he swapped handle bar controls over. Try riding with throttle rotating forward on left bar and clutch on the right. He reckoned it would slow the light fingered down somewhat.
