Horsepower is how fast you hit the wall
Torque is how far you take the wall with you....

Sometimes a truck is useful, but I'd normally prefer the Ferrari....

I`d prefer both, horses and torque.

Torque is the force applied to the little end bearing by the connecting rod, times the distance travelled which is equal to half the stroke of the motor.
Power is Torque times RPM divided by X (X being a variable depending on HP, KW or other).
May the sun be warm & shining and your roads be smooth & winding.

Bugger that Einstein, I just like to give it a big handful & feel it go!

Sounds like torque is closer to the real thing, while power is the wet dream of a mathematician/marketeer to sell engine driven vehicles to those whose world consisted of horse pulled carts and "torque" was not part of their language.

May the Force be with you :boogie:

This morning i went out front of my house. A lady came past with her horse. Ive now decided horsepower isnt all created equally.

That little one just needs to pick up its rpm and than it has the same horse power as one of these giant cold blooded horses. All the theoretical power with barely enough force felt by the rider.

Not really, if you consider a single cylinder motor, once the torque stroke has been made there is still energy within the crankshaft raising the piston back to the top, in fact there is more than enough energy to rotate a 4 cycle motor through all four parts of its cycle.
Torque is then applied on top of that remaining energy spinning the crank faster adding more Power to what was already there.
Reality is if Torque were more useful than Power then the 1199cc Ducati's would be untouchable by the 1000cc 4 cylinder bikes, seeing as it produces 20% more torque. It is very difficult and costly to spin the motor up and make the required power which is why nobody bought Ducati Privateer race bikes from 2004 to about 2008 when the emphasymic twin rules were reintroduced at the bequest of Italian sulking.
