Looking forward to seeing how these work out grog, sounds like a nice little project.

In fact it would be useful if you could do some pictures and perhaps a write-up as you go, as this could be useful to others to see how you actually do this (I'm sure there would be interest).

Nothing to do.............all day to do it....I love retirement

Do you have to place "feedback" on Gumtree ?
In NZ we have Trade Me, both buyer and seller place feedback on the other. That way you can look up sellers and see how many Negative feedback posts they have and why.
Another great day on the right side of the grass.😎

start tomorrow, no hurry. no feedback on gumtree, last time ill use it. ebay has always been good, two issues, both resolved. money back. one was 20 bucks other 400. i know bars seem a lot of bother over a small thing. just annoyed so now will fix. that guy who sold me bars, has 2007 gsx 14 coming up for sale. ill post warnings about it, not trust worthy. bars will end up perfect, his sale will end up nowhere.

When he does post up grog, you should put the link up so those in the know here can avoid and advise to avoid (actually a good question to ask would be whether it had ever been down the road, and see what the answer is)

Can people only see the question if it is answered ? Thats how it goes on Trade Me. So i am always cautious if I see "3 unanswered questions" . The number of unanswered questions is shown.

A different part, but similar problems, before & after pics of the same parts, I HATE binning stuff that still has life left it it!!

But in this case, I shot-blasted them clean, primed, rubbed down & re-painted.
I DO have to grow old, I DO NOT have to grow up.

today i went to see my mate about his welding/filling my crash bars. had them 3 weeks. had done nothing. off my xmas list, annoyed. i went and bought a brazing rod, a whole 3 bucks. fixed myself in 10 minutes. spent 1/2 hour with file and a air buzz gun, use to remove old gaskets. have fixed 2 scars, other one tomorrow. so far, so good. advice on primer to use over chrome is appreciated, will use bbq matt black to paint. will use same for forks and brake torque rod. all help/thoughts appreciated. thanks

Bit tough getting anything to stick to chrome. I have always tried to get rid of it. Often using a pretty fine, say 120 grit flappy disc on a 4 inch sander.
Others may have better ideas, which i would be interested to hearing about .

Yep chrome is a real pig to get things to stick to. Likewise, I've always used a coarse flap wheel to take the shine off and give the paint something to grab onto, followed by some etch primer and then painted on top. Mind you that BBQ paint is bloody good, damn stuff goes on and is an absolute pig to get off if you make a mistake (so be careful of any paint runs grog!) so not sure if you need any etch primer. Actually before the etc primer, I think (in this case) I'd paint some Red Oxide over the bits where you have brazed / there is any bare metal as Murphy's Law states that that is where any rust - if it does come through eventually - would appear.

Yes you would have to etch prime. I use a single pack epoxy etch primer on my repairs but like all automotive paints its expensive. Then you have to buy the correct thinner......the cost would get out of control. I'd be going to an automotive paint supplier and finding out if they have an epoxy black etch in a spray can. Thats where you would get the best advice.
Well done doing your own brazing repairs.

got bars almost perfect today, only a couple of hours with paper and little buzz gun. got paint that kills any rust under it. can serve as top coat or primer. can still see a couple of scratches, very minor. being fussy. will rub down again, decide if top coat needed. if so, either hammerite or bbq paint. wax remover is 15 per litre, white spirits $8. same stuff. 100%hydrocarbon. just a tip. happy so far. another tip, old mate at paint shop said wash your hands with white spirits before touching what you need to paint.
