Hi I'm new I'm about to buy gsx looks great drives great but f1 red light intermittingly comes on seller says its crank sensor wat do some of you think always had older gsxr any ideas

gsxbarmy

It could be, but without knowing the code that is causing the FI light you can't be sure. To do this, see this thread:

http://gsx1400owners.org/forum_test/index.php?topic=429.0

Personally I'd want the FI light issue resolved before I bought the bike, some of these sensors are not cheap as a part, so check out the prices of replacement before you proceed (if that is what you intend to do). But don't buy on his say-so that's it's crank sensor.

In all honesty there are some good GSX1400's for sale across the U.K., if it was me, I'd walk away from the one you are looking at and get a good one in full working order elsewhere.
Nothing to do.............all day to do it....I love retirement

Welcome  :)

First thing that comes to my mind:  Wouldn't buy it! If he thinks he knows what it is, he should fix it.

Need to get into dealer diagnostic mode to pinpoint more. Different ways to activate dealer mode depending on year made. Error code C12 and C24/25 would point to the crank shaft sensor, but not limited to it.

The service manual gives pointers to check for:

C12:
The signal does not reach ECM for more than 3 sec. after re-
ceiving the starter signal.
The crankshaft position sensor wiring and mechanical parts.
(Crankshaft position sensor, wiring/coupler connection)

C24 or C25:
Crankshaft position sensor (pick-up coil) signal is produced but
signal from ignition coil is interrupted continuous by two times or
more. In this case, the code c24 or c25 is indicated.
Ignition coil, wiring/coupler connection, power supply from the
battery.

No guarantee that it is any of the above though.

Andre

As Barmy says, the parts can be expensive. And the ignition coils, which could be the culprit, are difficult to source because they are not made anymore.

coldhands

I would not buy a bike with any warning light on  as Andre said it should have been  sorted, and as gsxbarmy said there are plenty of sound bikes out there for sale!!!!!  :onya: Oh just remembered mines is up for sale  :onya:
Remember every car driver wants to knock you off !!!!

seth

as already said
i wouldn't buy a bike with any fi lights flashing
the only to sell anything us to have it a as good condition as possible or expect to take a massive hit in the price you get .
there are some excellent gsx1400's for sale just now and at very keen prices .
rod's ( coldhands) is a particularly good one i know I've seen it and know how well he looks after it .
ive been at his house and completely understand why its for sale.

good luck but don't buy a faulty bike unless its very very cheap and you know how to fix it.

only a slightly modified gsx1400
oh and a standard one too

a F1 light would NOT hold me back.

I would investigate what the error really is. Codes can be retrieved easily.

I would you that error to reduce the price.  ( It is weird that he has not replaced it though. )

If its the cam sensor : seconds ones are available for about €50 incl shipping.
