02/04/2026 - A longer run for a fair spring day as the GTR took me to a few sights in Monmouth including the town's medieval bridge, castle and The Kymin lookout on a nearby hill:

My first school was in the middle of those buildings.
My first home as a kid a short walk further on.
My parents still live nearby and own a couple of other houses in the area.
Lots of memories.

19/04/2026 - An opportunity for another short ride opened up an as usual I chose the Z1000 (never a comfortable bike for a long run, but bloody good fun up to 40 miles from home). If you ask people where the first English Parliament was held, most would probably guess at London, but in fact it was at the tiny hamlet of Acton Burnell in Shropshire, in a barn next to the castle. I'd visited the castle  before but had not been aware of the historical ruin of the barn. As it goes, there is little left of the barn and what remains is now within the grounds of a school or college, so inaccessible. It was nice to have another stroll around the castle though and I still enjoyed the ride.

It's a very picturesque place, but not one to keep you occupied for more than an hour unless you are an architectural historian  :smile2:

23/04/2026 -Next up, an intermediate length run on a bright warm day, best suited to the GSX. After a breakfast sandwich and tea at the Montford Bridge cafe I moved on to Oswestry and sought out the remains of one of Britain's oldest grandstands situated on the long abandoned racecourse - not much to see, but a pleasant walk.

Onward over the border into Wales and a visit to Chirk to take a look at the historic aqueduct and viaduct then a coffee and a smoke at the "Caffi Wylfa". I took a moment to pose the GSX for a photo at Chirk Castle's ornate gates before riding onward.

Another brief pose outside the Art Deco "Legacy Tower" water tower near Wrexham and then onto my final stop of the day, the ruins of Minera Lead Mines, where a sign at the car park invited the visitor to wander around and explore, followed by a lot of security fencings and more signs telling me to keep out. there was still the opportunity of a few photos before heading home though.

Your GSX1400 looks in fine fettle
I try to take one day at a time, however sometimes several days catch up with me at once.

Agreed

Thanks gents.

She's not bad from a distance, but coming up to 23 years old there are a few issues that I suppose I should address:

The lower fork legs look particularly scabby, I'm not sure if there's any easy remedy - any suggestions welcome.

The paint on the wheels (particularly the rear) is developing a rough texture in the centre of the rim (near the spokes). I suppose the only proper job would be a complete repaint.

There's a chip on the tank paint that I'd like to get sorted out if only I knew someone who could touch it in at the right price.

All in all though, for 44,000 miles I'm quite happy with how it is holding up. The running is generally very good although sometimes I feel that it is only 98% a smooth as it was, perhaps I ought to look at the fuel filter - I'm not sure it's ever been touched unless it was replaced the last time I had it professionally serviced.

Pete.

Similar to my K3, sitting on 53000km and some of the same issues.  But still very good looking bikes for 23yo.
