Cleaning rear wheel and chain with no centre stand

Morning all, have not been on here for a while, could not find you, have you changed site,anyway, good to be back.
I have a problem which is a bit of a pain, I have a K5 and converted it to a twin, in doing so I had to remove the centre stand and now have to rely on the side stand, but this is where I have come unstuck,when cleaning and oiling the chain and cleaning the rear wheel I find myself having to roll the bike forward to expose more of the wheel, I know you can get paddock stands but was wondering if there is anything else on the market that is smaller and will do the same job. Just buy a paddock stand.   


You just need one with L lifters to lift under the swingarm.
Even the Aldi ones are fine for big bikes.

Great for cleaning.
Lubing chains.
Adjusting chains.
Pulling rear wheels out.
etc etc etc.

These are both Aldi stands, $50 / £28 each.



Some stands don't come with under the arm L-lifters.
I've picked up a few sets as owners with bobbins get them with expensive stands and never use them.
You don't need to drill holes and fit bobbins to a 14, these work fine.

I agree with a Tony in that a Paddock Stand is your best option. The only other option is to buy a mainstand off an earlier K2-K4 and when you want to lift the bike up, remove one of the exhausts and link pipes and temporarily fit the mainstand using the bo,t off your original mainstand that you removed (less springs etc), so it literally just swings from the bolt.

There is also a wheel plate that you put the rear tyre in and it allows you to rotate the wheel without moving the bike.

i carry one of these under the seat of the b/w 14 as it has no center stand .

it works well for lubricating and i have used it to remove the wheel to have a punture repaired .

i carry one of these under the seat of the b/w 14 as it has no center stand .

it works well for lubricating and i have used it to remove the wheel to have a punture repaired .

I actually had a short bit of timber that went under the right hand side of the swingarm.
Took it on a few road trips for lubing the chain.

Had mates turn my bars on full lock right, and tip the bike forward on the front end and side stand to do the same thing too.

a few years ago when Wifey moved on from her ZZR600 (which had a centre stand) to her current GSX-R 600, I soon needed to find another way to oil her chain. This is the first bike in our garage (in 40 years) that only has a side stand. I did some head scratching and came up with this multi use tool.

Got some aluminium pipe that a socket handle will fit up, then found an old half inch socket which was the correct size to go in the swing arm pivot hole, then just lean over bike and lift it on the side stand and move swing the pipe back until it touches the rear brake lever, no effort at all. Also purchased a 36mm socket to go on the socket handle so we can undo the rear axel nut to tension chains on both our bikes if needed to on our mainland Australia longer trips, yes the 36mm socket fits both bikes. I have attached some photos to help explain GH's multi use tool

Also comes in handy as a useful deterrent to thieves, if they want to take on an active 60yearold with a length of pipe with some weight in the end of it

PS, we do have a paddock stand for proper Gixxer maintenance in the garage

Just be re-reading this thread.  That looks like a handy option for when out and about....

i still refit the center stand when working on the bike at home in the garage but the lift-stick is for when I'm away from home with the bike it works well and used it on a few different bikes some that come without a stand when new .
