Not sure wher to post this ..any buddy live in devon ? Am looking for surgestions on a mechanic that no these  engines  and actuarley fixes things id like my valves cheaked and possibley adjusted if needed all the bike shops around my area dont fix unless its broken was speking to a mechanic this morning and he said it didont sound to bad and whould not even cheak them and if he did cheak them if they were only a few mils out of spec he would just leave them till they got realy bad am wanting them cheaked and if out of spec (no matter how much out ) adjusts them and just genrally cheak every thing in rocker box chain etc is all as should be

RickC

Hi Mark,
I can't help you with a mechanic but generally most people check their valve clearances and
seldom have to make adjustments, the bike usually get large miles on them before you see any
valve clearance problems.

Perhaps the mechanics in your area were trying to do the right thing by you and save you some cash.

Cheers,
Rick

Na they just dont want the hassle buckits n shimes its easy to do a oil change harder to do a proper job i no quite a few poeple that have paid and tapits not been touched or told it sounds ok looks like a diy job which i can do but would rather a real mechanic done this job

Mark, theyll be ok. dont stress. i adjusted my first bucket n shims in 1973, bought the shim kit, z900 z1 kawa. was a waste of time back then, same applies to 14. they only get looser, if at all. not like all the old skool screw adjusters. valve clearance was a prob. on old stuff, seats wore and theyd tighten up, burnt valves were result. seats have been really hard for years,  ever since and before lead was taken out of fuel. ive been looking after motors for 46 yrs, i do know about them. change your oil, adjust all the other stuff spoken about on here, save your bucks and get some bling. if i lived close id check them and adjust. my quote, 3 to 4 hrs of time, new top gasket. just to check. that would be 4 to 5 hundred, to check. adjusting, lots more. shims etc, more time. i work for 120 per/hr at work. in other words mate, dont fret and just keep riding, youll never break the 14 motor.

its only at very high mileages that you.d need to change any shims
if you feel you need to check them now you'll need a rocker gasket/seal  and a pick-up cover gasket as you remove the and thats how you spin the crank.
you don't need to remove anything else to check them it tells you cam positions and which to check at each position in the manual available in the download section.
the 2 x 14's that are over 50000 miles were checked not long ago as i was curious
both bike still spot on well within tolerances.
some on the hold org had over 100000 km with no issues

good luck but you really have a good few years before you need to open up the motor

only a slightly modified gsx1400
oh and a standard one too

Hi
Like they said save your cash. Since I bought the bike I never had it serviced, just oil, filter etc. After a good few miles now with the turbo fitted I went to Mistral for Rob to "check" the motor. I cant hear anything above the exhaust noise. Result all fine at over 50k

turner

Hello , checked mine in february, it had 80000miles on clock then . all spot on in middle of tollerance , felt good to know she ready for this years rides :boogie2:

With the age of these bikes now, a full service history makes virtually no difference to resale value. More you are getting it done for peace of mind by a dealer.

In looking for a mechanic, suggest you look for a good one who can stamp up your service book if that is what you want

Not necessarily. Can easily be an independent who works on reputation, for instance a guy who used to be a Suzuki mechanic but who has now set up for himself. I know a couple of guys like this (not in Devon though!) whose opinion I value and who I would trust to work on my machine, knowing that if they say they are doing something it will be done and done properly but they are not accredited Suzuki dealerships (in fact Suzuki in the UK have reduced the number of dealerships they have over the past few years). Also they are more sensible on pricing, but having set up and owning their own business can stamp your service book. Most I guess would be more concerned with getting the bike properly serviced, rather than whether the stamps are from a Suzuki dealership or not. In fact just before my "local" Suzuki dealership stopped dealing in Suzuki's, they had a joint dealership for a while selling both Yamaha and Suzuki. So when I had my first service I had a Yamaha stamp on my service book and they had used Yamaha branded brake fluid (showed on the invoice). And this from a Suzuki dealership!!!

No to me, its where I get good service I can trust. Most of the time I do it myself.

by aussie law, i can service any vehicle, cars, bikes, jet skis. stamp book. wrty is covered. the dealers charge lots more, just scare tactics. out of my head, an example. just random. toyota tarago full service. my quote doing every little bit, lets say 100k service. around 400 bucks. toyota charge between 1000 to 1500 for same. ducati, they charge around 300 to plug diagnostic tool in, fix fuck all. my baby scanner cost 100 bucks, my big one , just under 10 grand. costs me nothing to plug either one in and scan. i enjoy looking actually. never charge a customer. the expensive one pays its way by correct diagnosis. saves money and time. 14 computer is really not that smart. wish it was. old skool stuff. dont pay big bucks before asking on here, this place does have big brains.

Gsxbarmy yer most important its done properley secound my gsx1400 very low miles k7 is worth around 5500 with full history .if traded in i got offerd 4200 ..with out fsh it will be a fair bit less .i could prob do the shim and buckit my self but rather trust some one thats done this job before as for the service stamp you could all ways just get a basic service oil fillter etc and they will still stamp the book(done this before)..so any one local thats done them before including re shiming if needed not just cheak them wanting to earn some cash plz message me i have a garage and loads n loads of tools (all ways fixed my own dirt bikes)
