The starter motor might be at fault but I'd still be checking every thing easier like all the plugs and making sure you have circuit continuity in your loom before taking the starter out.
If you have removed the oil pipe then an Allan key head scocket on an extension to a ratchet is what I'd use .
Good luck with it all

Biker, id be doing Hoolis suggestion, a known good battery and jumper leads. That will give a definate answer on starter, you can have good volts but if theres a bad connection somewhere, no amps, wont work. Have read a lot of posts about 14 but dont remember that many starters failing.Maybe ive just not paid attention.

I've not heard of one going tits up either, or hang on, maybe there was one?  I recall posting about my Yamaha quad starter in comparison.  But that'd be the only one, so it's definitely not a common problem.

Connected directly to battery and nothing just sort of clicked, decided to try and fix.
All the bearings are worn badly and the brushes all disintegrated and a load of black powder fell out too.
New one on the way this one is fooked

I just wanted to say I got my new starter and bike now all fixed, starts so much quicker too so god know how long the starter has been on its way out for !
I have started a webs page to document my hobbies and bike stuff here https://tomstc.co.uk/gsx1400deadstarter
I used the forum and Facebook for help on this one so have referenced the pages I can't take the glory for this fix, but I thought it may help someone else in a similar predicament

Thanks for you help on this one peeps!
